13 Things To Do In The Mitten During Summer

As an Upper Peninsula native (aka a 'Yooper') going to college in the Lower Peninsula, I have quite the list of things I would like to experience this summer. Instead of going back home for the summer, I am choosing to become a "troll" and live in the Lower Peninsula.

The lower peninsula has so many things to offer and I can't wait to experience all of the wonders it holds. Don't get me wrong, the Upper Peninsula is beautiful and every outdoorsy person's dream spot, but I am ready to experience some new things that this lovely state has to offer.

There are so many things to do with so little time to do them all, but here is my bucket list for my first summer living in the Lower Peninsula, in no particular order.

1. Visit the Detroit Zoo

2. Swim in Lake Michigan

3. Go to Frederik Meijer Gardens

4. Go to a concert at DTE Energy Music Theatre

5. Attend the Tulip Time Festival in Holland

6. Go to the Belle Isle Conservatory

7. Go to Electric Forest Music Festival

8. Go to the Gerald R. Ford Museum

9. Go to the Sleeping Bear Dunes

10. Go to a drive-in theater


11. Go to Michigan's Adventure



12. Find a Petoskey Stone

13. Go to a Tiger's game

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here.
