Even with a world that is connected within our fingertips, we sometimes forget to thank the people who make our life so happy in so many ways.

Sometimes, we forget to tell them how much we really do appreciate them for being an important part of our life. Today is just another day, nothing special going on but reflecting on the memories made that couldn't be complete without the actions of an individual that has inspired me to be a better version of myself.

Some may call her a best friend, a college roommate, a co worker, a sibling, or a mother. But I have the privilege to call her my Aunt.

Its the following simple characteristics that I have picked up on throughout the years, that has shape me into who I am today.

1. She doesn’t judge

In a world with so many past judgments, there is a time that you just want to have someone love you for your strengths and your weakness. Thanks for being that person to sympathize in my pain, and celebrate in my triumphs.

2. She’s a teacher

She’s been through the pain of wounds that don’t know how to heal to give her the knowledge to know a thing or two to help heal yours.

3. She’s good at keeping secrets

She has your back whether it’s broken or just stiff. Her patience in listening to your secrets is just another reason why she is your person.

4. She sneaks you chocolate

Whether you were 8 or 18 she’s always spoiling you with an after dinner snack of something sweet.

5. She’s always smiling

She keeps the moments upbeat and fun. No matter the circumstances going on in each other’s life she puts on a brave face and her smile and positive attitude becomes contagious.

6. She’s another mother figure that you often need

No one can have enough role models to strive to become.

7. She shares your same sense of humor.

Whether its crackling at the actions of the stranger sitting in front of you, or sharing how the chicken crosses the rode her humor reminds you that not everything in life shouldn’t be looked as so serious. Its okay to laugh at yourself.

8. She’s a shoulder to lean on

She understands that its okay to show your weak side sometimes. The only way we move forward is to reflect on the past and lean on our loved ones for sympathy.

9. She has the biggest heart

Always seeking another opportunity to find out what is going on in your life. Whether it’s a question about your favorite clothing store to shop at, or how college is treating you she dives deeper to get to know the simple things that make you, you.

10. She’s one of a kind

She is the most caring person that you know. She is bighearted and doesn’t even realize how much she has impacted your life. Her actions come natural, and her presence reminds you of the simple blessings to cherish in your life.

11. She gives the biggest hugs

There is never a wrong time to hug the ones you love a little tighter. She is a prime example of the simple acts of kindness that can change someone’s whole day.

12. She’s still young at heart.

She’s the first one to dive into that piece of chocolate cake 5 min after dinner or maybe 5 min before. She shows that no one is too old to have young fun and enjoy playing board games with a hand full of chocolate in one hand and the bag of M&M’s in another.

13. She’s an example of the kind of Aunt you hope to be one day.

The laughs and giggles might have been overlooked when I was younger but the memories have bundled up to a pile of love and appreciation I have that I hope to cherish with my niece or nephew one day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
