13 Thank Yous To The Friends I Made In College
Jessica Smith

College friends are different than any other kind of friends. Sharing a dorm building and being able to be in your room in less than 30 seconds means we're spending a majority of our time together, and we may have only known each other for a short amount of time, but it feels like a lifetime and I wouldn't trade you guys for anything. I don't tell you enough how much I appreciate you all and everything you do for me, so here are my thank you's for you.

1. Thank you for understanding my past.

You know all about the embarrassing stories from my awkward middle school stage and all the drama that ever occurred in my whole entire life. It's like you were right there with me, even though you weren't.

2. Thank you for dealing with me at my worst.

From crying on the floor because of a stupid guy (who definitely isn't worth it), to dealing with my random mood swings because of stress, and all the in between. I don't know how you deal with it, but I'm so thankful that you do.

3. Thank you for being honest with me.

Even if it's something I don't want to hear, you're honest with me. You want the best for me and you won't keep me happy with lies.

4. Thank you for helping me study.

Not just anyone can sit with me, flipping through 100 notecards the night before a huge exam and make it a good time. From the silly acronyms to the comments that help me remember, I owe it to you for helping me study and pass my classes and having fun while doing it.

5. Thank you for going on late night food runs with me.

When it's 2 a.m. and I'm craving McDonald's chicken nuggets, I know you won't be mad that I'm dragging you to get them with me. You're always down for the nuggets.

6. Thank you for laying in bed all day and watching Netflix with me.

Nothing can compare to avoiding school work (and life in general) by laying in bed with a bunch of junk food and binge watching a whole Netflix series, and having you there to do it with me makes it so much better.

7. Thank you for not judging me.

Not only do you come on my 2 a.m. food runs with me, you don't judge me for them either. College is full of weird moments and I know that I never have to worry about you judging me for anything I say or do, and I know that I do some weird things.

8. Thank you for being there whenever I need you.

Whenever I bust into your room at all hours of the day and night, I know that you'll be there to talk about whatever is going on. Through the nervous breakdowns to the moments when I just can't sleep and don't want to be alone, you're always there if I need you.

9. Thank you for keeping me sane.

College is stressful and if it wasn't for you, I would have probably lost my mind by now. You always know what to say to keep me calm and from completely losing it. I couldn't do it without you.

10. Thank you for holding my secrets like their your own.

Knowing I have you to confide in about all the weird things in my life and you will hold them to yourself is one of the best feelings ever.

11. Thank you for bringing me back home cooked meals from when you go home.

Because we all know eating cafeteria food gets old after the first week of being back to school, leftovers from dinner are always appreciated and are delicious every time.

12. Thank you for letting me raid your closet when I'm going out and have nothing to wear.

I know I am the queen of hissy fits when I have nothing to wear, but you always save the day by letting me raid your closet and letting me wear whatever I want.

13. Thank you for being you.

Honestly, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have made it this far. You are each truly amazing people and I am so glad to have met every single one of you. I'm so glad that we get to go on this journey through college with one another.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
