13 Songs That Made Your Middle School Pre-Game Playlist

In college, you can not go out to a party without having a killer pre-game with your closet friends and getting hyped up with some of your new favorite songs on this week's newest playlist. However, having a pre-game with friends before a party on a Friday night in college isn't a new thing. In middle school, before all those (cool at the time) awkward dances, as you got ready with your friends and made sure you knew all the lyrics to all the songs, you had a "pre-game playlist" (to some extent). You then took some last minute mirror pictures with your digital camera, or group pictures using your photo booth app. Then when the time came, as someone's parent carpooled a group of six 'tweens in a minivan to the dance, you'd plug in your iPod and sing these songs on the way to the dance.

1. "Tik Tok"

Before any teenager knew who Mick Jagger was, or really what "Jack" Daniels is, they knew that they were two of Ke$ha's favorite things. This song has and will always be a staple for any good pre-game playlist.

2. "Low"

Flo-Rida, aka Florida always knew how to start a party with "Low" back in middle school and even today he continues to start the party with "My House." Flo-Rida was and always will be a part of the pre-game playlist.

3. "Whatcha Say"

Back when Jason Derulo introduced himself at the beginning of every song, this was one of the best. A close second could be "Down," which everyone knew and probably still knows the rap to.

4. "Poker Face"

This song was the most annoying but catchy song through out middle school, and when it came on at dances- you knew someone was about to poke your face. However, Lady Gaga contributed to many fun times in middle school, and even high school, with this song.

5. "Dynamite"

Taio Cruz had only a few popular songs, one of them being "Dynamite" and, of course, "Break Your Heart." But they were always on repeat on my iPod.

6. "California Gurls"

Katy Perry's crazy music videos and wild personality made her so cool when we were all in middle school. Like who doesn't want a whipped cream can bra? However, she was also very controversial in the early years of middle school, but thankfully many parents warmed up to the church girl gone Popstar.

7. "Like A G6"

Far East Movement, they only were around for a little- but when "Like a G6" came out, everyone wanted to be a G6.

8. "Pretty Girl Rock"

This was a great song in middle school, and was always the best song to sing with your girls on the way to the party. But I have to admit, I still have this song on my pre-game playlist in college and often sing-a-long to it in my car.

9. "OMG"

Usher made all our middle school hearts go, "oh my god". What a babe, even though he was at least 10 years old than us, his voice and his dance skills made us all melt.

10. "Bedrock"

Before Drake and Nicki Minaj became some of our favorite raps in high school, they were a part of "Young Money" which created one of the best rap group songs during middle school- which most of us had no idea what they were saying. It wasn't like we didn't know what they were saying, but they went to a new level.

11. "Party In The USA"

While Miley still had long brown hair and was on "Hannah Montana", this was her edgy stuff and made everyone throw their hands up at parties, "Watch them butterflies fly away."

12. "Lollipop"

Lil Wayne plus middle school dance equals...? This song was a catchy and totally gross song for middle schoolers to sing along to, but the sad part was we all thought we were so cool singing this song. Thank god for high school, college, and maturity.

13. "Replay"

"It's like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay." Those lyrics are embedded into all of our middle school brains. This, and every other song, made those middle school dances fun, but so awkward. If you think about the songs and then 12 and 13-year-olds singing along, it is a little weird. But, hey, they make great throwback songs when you hit college.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
