The town of Avon, Indiana is known for being the rival of many surrounding schools. It's grown from a little town to a big town in a short amount of time. We all know how we feel about driving down Rockville Road in the middle of the day. Here are 14 signs you're from the great town of Avon, Indiana.

1. You know and love Frostbite.

Cold Stone and Orange Leaf are great and everything, but nothing really compares to the town ice cream shop. We've all been there a time or to sitting under those blue umbrellas.

2. Purdue or IU? That is the question.

It seems like half of the high school goes to Purdue and half the high school goes to IU. The rivalry will forever live on.

3. Construction on construction.

If you've drove through Avon recently, you know how much construction is taking place. One lane roads for days.

4. We are Ben Strong.

Whether you are an alumni of Avon or a current student..we are all Ben Strong.

5. Even though we aren't from Plainfield, we've taken a trip out to Graffiti Road.

6. AJAA High School Basketball is a serious matter.

If you thought high school basketball was serious..wait until you get to AJAA high school basketball. This is where the true talent comes to shine.

7. Our marching band is one of the best.

The Avon High School Marching Band placed first in the Bands Of America Grand National Championships two years in a row.

8. You know at least one person who lives in Prestwick, Timerbend, or Bridgewater.

We all have a friend that lives in one of these neighborhoods. It seems like half of the school system lived in one of these.

9. Avon Lip dub.

The students of Avon High School created a lip dub to raise awareness about the importance of prenatal care this year. If you're from Avon, you are proud to be apart of a town who can put together something like this.

10. La Hacienda is the place to go.

If you're from Avon you know this is the place to be. Amazing food and even better food.

11. Everywhere you look it seems there's a new school popping up out of nowhere.

Avon is home to 11 schools, and everywhere you look there is a new one going up. Our little town is growing into a big one right before our eyes.

12. Home to the Haunted Bridge.

We're not really sure if it's actually haunted or not, but rumor has it is.

13. Rave Motion Pictures (now Carmike Cinemas) was always a weekend go to.

You'd rather take a trip out to Plainfield than to drive down Rockville Road to see the newest movies. It may have been a longer drive, but we always seemed to make our way out to the mall for a movie instead.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
