Only In Your State

Growing up in the "Friendly City" is something that not many get to experience, and the ones that do are very lucky to have done so. Our quaint little city of Wheeling may not seem like much, but it's still home to us and always will be. Here are some signs that you grew up in the friendliest city of them all:

1. You currently attend or graduated from either Wheeling Park, Linsly, or Central.

2. You remember going to countless birthday parties at Foggy Bottom.

3. It was so totally cool to hang out at the Ohio Valley Mall with friends.

4. You absolutely hate when people mispronounce Oglebay.

5. Your weekends are spent taking late-night runs to Sheetz with friends.

5. Dicarlo's Pizza is a staple of your diet...

6. And so are the greek wings from The Alpha.

7. As a kid, you were more excited to see Moondog than Santa Claus at the end of the Christmas Parade.

8. The Festival of Lights is your least favorite thing about the holiday season because it's the only time we actually have traffic.

9. The majority of your homecoming/prom pictures were taken in front of the Oglebay Mansion or the waterfront.

10. You use Pittsburgh as a reference point when describing our location.

11. Getting a geotag on Snapchat was a REALLY big deal.

12. It's highly likely that you have at least one Instagram picture of you at the Overlook.

13. You love having that "Wheeling Feeling."

But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
