We all know those old sayings that offer wise life advice. Maybe you heard them from your grandmother or on an inspirational calendar. No matter how cheesy they sound, they do still hold some truth and can be applied to everyday life. Here are some of these classic adages and how they are relevant to life in college.

1. "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."

Strive to get the best grades you can, but keep in mind that C's get degrees.

2. "No man is an island."

Everyone needs some help now and then, so try to make friends in your classes for when you don't know what's going on.

3. "Better late than never."

The important thing is, you showed up to class.

4. "A picture is worth a thousand words."

Even if it seems stupid it seems sometimes, take as many pictures as you can because one day you will look back on them with nostalgia and be glad you have them.

5. "There's no place like home."

This one speaks for itself. Sometimes you just want to go home to your old bed and your mom's cooking.

6. "A watched pot never boils."

Staring at your ramen noodles won't make them cook any faster, just don't burn your house down.

7. "Actions speak louder than words."

Doing the dishes or vacuuming can be good ways to tell your roommates you love them.

8. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

Never argue with the house rules.

9. "A penny saved is a penny earned."

Do not spend all of your paycheck at once, and thank yourself later.

10. "Necessity is the mother of invention."

You'd be surprised what you can whip up with next to no ingredients when you're hungry enough.

11. "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link."

If one friend can't hold it together when you go out, odds are none of you are having a good time.

12. "Honesty is the best policy."

When asked, tell your friends your true feelings, whether it's about their outfit or their boyfriend. They'll appreciate it in the long run (probably).

13. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

After being away for some time, you'll forget all about the ways your family annoys you and just miss them like crazy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
