I am a sucker for a good love story and I think most people, even if they don’t want to admit, are too. My mom usually laughs at me because I get so into the romantic scenes, but I just love how a director can capture such chemistry between two people in one scene. The love being portrayed is a magical thing to watch, even if it is fake. I have seen my fair share of romcoms (romantic comedies) and out of all the best ones out there, these are a few scenes that always make my heart melt.

1. A Cinderella Story

I know that anyone who has seen this movie will agree with me that the scene where Chad Michael Murray runs off the football field to grab Hilary Duff and kiss her as it begins to rain is probably the most romantic scene EVER. First off this boy basically gives up his football career for a girl, which I know has to be tough for any sports lover. Then, Hilary isn’t even expecting it, which makes it even more heartwarming, then when he kisses her, it starts to rain! Everyone knows rain makes everything more romantic!

2. The Wedding Singer

The 1998 film starring Adam Sandler is one of my favorites, mainly for this one scene in particular. We don’t picture Sandler to be a romantic type of guy because of his record of playing the funny guy, but he kills it when he attempts to stop the wedding of the girl he is in love with who is about to marry another man. Little does he know he is on the same flight as his lover and her terrible fiancé. So what does the wedding singer do? He sings her a song with in front of the whole flight. The lyrics are cheesy, but so cute. Every time I board a flight now I wait for this to happen to me.

3. A lot Like Love

This is another one where a guy confesses his love through song. Ashton Kutcher decides to surprise a girl that he hasn’t talked to in years and he is convinced he can win her over through the power of Bon Jovi. Kutcher attempts, and does a pretty good job at, singing Bon Jovi’s song “I’ll Be There For You” and at the end admits that he has no job, is broke, but he just wants her to love him. Putting himself out there like that definitely makes the scene ten times more romantic, girls love vulnerability.

4. Crazy Stupid Love

Now this scene isn’t as cutesy romantic as the others but I know it is one that girls imagine in their fantasy life. Emma Stone’s character has realized that her boyfriend is not what she wants/needs in her life anymore and heads to a bar to find exactly what she does want. Ryan Gosling. She points him out that the bar and engages in a kiss, but not just any kiss, an unexpected, romantic kiss. It is romantic scene in a different sense, it is one that will give you a grin on your face and say “you go girl!”

5. The Notebook

Another Ryan Gosling movie, the love story classic, "The Notebook." The whole movie is already romantic enough but there this one scene that gets to me every time I watch the film. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are arguing over what McAdams’ character really wants with the rest of her life. Gosling does a fantastic job of getting the audience all worked up as he is confessing that all he wants in life is her. Typically a fighting scene wouldn’t really be considered as romantic, but if you really listen to what they are saying and relate it to real life, you will be taken back on how real the scene gets. The acting and writing for this scene really hits on the nail for a great romantic scene.

6. Sixteen Candles

No one can remember poor Molly Ringwald’s birthday in the 1984 film "Sixteen Candles," but that’s okay because the next day at her sister’s wedding, heartthrob Jake Ryan shows up across the street from the church with his shiny red car. It was so romantic it was like a dream. Even Ringwald’s character questions if the boy was there for her. Thank goodness for him showing up, because her family had already left her there anyway. Jake Ryan doesn’t just finish there, he tells her to make a wish on the cake he got her. I guess birthday wishes do come true!

7. The Proposal

This is a couple that isn’t meant to be together from the start. Sandra Bullock plays Ryan Reynolds' boss and forces him to marry her so she doesn’t get deported. The whole movie consists of the two bickering back and forth, but you slowly realize that all the fighting is just fighting out of love (because apparently that’s a thing). In this scene where Bullock realizes she is in way over her head and ditches the wedding, Reynolds shows her who’s really the boss by following her to the office and confessing his love. After hoping the whole movie that they end up together, this final scene gives you just that.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

The “I’m too bad for love” thing is the major plot of this 90's film starring Julia Stiles and the sadly deceased Heath Ledger. Ledger’s character in this movie isn’t portrayed as the romantic type, which is probably surprising why he made my list, but he definitely impressed the girl, and a few others, when he sings to Stiles on the school field in front of almost the entire study body. Even as he is getting pulled away by security officers Ledger doesn’t fail to give such a romantic gesture.

9. Uptown girl

Another celebrity gone too soon, Brittany Murphy does a fantastic job in her role as the rich girl who never worked a day in her life. That is, until her manager steals all her money that her famous father left her after he died. Murphy’s character struggles with just about everything in this film, especially her relationship with her rock n' roll boyfriend played by Jesse Spencer. Spencer’s character rises up when he recruits a bunch of young ballerinas to help him perform the song that Murphy’s character dad wrote for her using his famous guitar. This scene never fails to give me goosebumps and wonder, where’s my rock star boyfriend?

10. Some Kind of Wonderful

This is the definition the biggest friend zone movie. Those unfamiliar with the term, friend zoned is when one person in the friendship develops feelings for the other but the other person refuses to see the friendship as anything else than just that...a friendship. Mary Stuart Masterson ends up falling for her best friend played by Eric Stoltz while he is crushing on the popular pretty girl played by Lea Thompson. It isn’t until the final scene of the movie where Stoltz leaves his dream girl to finally be with the girl he knew was right for him all along, his best friend. Took him long enough!

11. He’s Just Not That Into You

This movie is a bunch of love stories all in one, but the chemistry that Justin Long and Ginnifer Goodwin have is one that engages the audience throughout the whole film. With their “not so real” relationship you constantly want to know what comes next with the two of them and if the two end up together. In this scene, Long shows up to Goodwin’s door saying that he actually loves her in contrary to what he expressed before and all the things he said to her before were lies. Even though Goodwin stands up for herself and doesn’t give in right away, Long steals her away with a kiss, making you realize that the two are meant to be together after all. Aw, so cute!

12. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Short and sweet is sometimes all we need. Ferris realizes he needs to get home ASAP and frantically runs home but not before kissing his girl goodbye. As he runs away his girlfriend Sloane watches him and says with the biggest grin, “he’s gonna marry me.” Not much to it but I love this scene just as much as Ferris loves Sloane. As she says the line she has so much hope and happiness in her eyes. She has the kind of look that you can’t help but smile for her. Their young ambition and commitment is truly admiring and all you can wonder is, what comes next for those two? Hopefully marriage.

13. Never Been Kissed

Lucky Drew Barrymore not only gets the man in "The Wedding Singer," but also gets her man in the film "Never Been Kissed." After deceiving the man she loves, she attempts to win him back by waiting for her first kiss at a high school baseball game. Everyone she knows is there rooting for her to finally get her kiss and don't worry, she does! Even though he shows up late, he comes and delivers her first kiss. That sure is one fancy way to have your first kiss.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
