13 Reasons Why Parents Weekend Is The Best Weekend

1. You get to see your parents.

I have never gone so long without seeing my parents. More than a month after move in, I was pretty excited.

2. Parents' Weekend Boulevarding is even more fun than regular Boulevarding.

There was barbecue and In N Out and Peruna and Balloon Arches. Need I say more?

3. I got to watch The Iron Skillet Game with my mom and dad.

SMU may have not come out on top, but Ford Stadium is a pretty cool place to be on a Friday night.

4. I finally got my picture with Peruna!

5. I didn't eat in a dining hall for 3 consecutive days.

6. I got to eat Torchy's, donuts, and Cafe Brazil in one weekend.

7. My parents got to see me play soccer for the first time in more than six months.

7. I actually cleaned my room this weekend.

My parents didn't want to see my clothes strewn across the floor, and I knew it so I picked up beforehand.

8. They brought me things I wanted from home.

When I moved in, who knew I would've wanted a bean bag chair? Not me for sure, but now I have a dorm room plus my zebra print beanbag.

9. From stickers for their cars, to t-shirts and polos, they are now STOCKED with SMU gear.

10. They took me shopping for all kinds of little things I needed so I didn't have to buy them myself.

11. I got to watch an LSU game with my dad.

I grew up watching LSU games on TV and in person with my dad. Watching them alone in my dorm room has not been the same.

12. I didn't have to drive myself around to go places all weekend.

For those who know me, I HATE driving so this one is pretty big.

13. I got to show my parents around what has become my home and tell them about what makes it my home.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
