13 Reasons Why October is My Favorite

Now that summer is officially over, I can discuss my favorite month in length without feeling sad that it hasn't arrived. October is truly a wonderful month. It's the perfect in-between month and there's really nothing about it I don't like.

1. It’s Finally Fall!

Sure, fall may have started in September, but just like the holiday season shouldn’t start until after November, fall definitely shouldn’t start until October 1st. Leaves are changing, weather is amazing, and there’s always such a beautiful excitement that comes with the seasons changing. Oh, and there's a lot of pie!

2. Sweater Weather

Does this one even need an explanation? I wanted to take out my sweaters in August. It’s not the frozen icy tundra of winter, but it’s still chilly and all you want to do is cuddle up in your favorite sweater and drink coffee.

3. Flannels

It’s not cold enough to need a jacket or big sweater but it is cold enough to want to be comfy and warm. Flannels are my ultimate aesthetic and October is the perfect time to wear them without sweating or being freezing in them.

4. Booties

I spent the whole week before October 1st begging my roommate to let me wear booties but for some reason it just feels so wrong in September. Catch me around campus wearing booties all month long and shopping every sale as well.

5. Leaves

The leaves are finally changing. Nothing is more beautiful than the Hudson Valley in October

6. Pumpkin Spice Lattes... and all other pumpkin flavored things.

I admit I am drinking one as I write this, and I don’t even feel bad about it. Nothing says October like pumpkin and spice (and everything nice).

7. Apple Picking

Being from California, apple picking just wasn’t a thing there. Here in New York I can enjoy the beauty and fun that is apple picking

8. The Smells

Not only is the smell of rain my absolute favorite, but you have pumpkin smells, apple pie smells, spicy smells, sweet smells; everything is just so yummy in October

9. Candy is always on sale?!

I’m a big fan of candy corn so when October brings you aisles full of "buy one, get one free," I’m all about it.

10. Children and Dogs in Costumes

My cold heart melts a little when I see babies dressed up as pumpkins or dogs dressed up as dragons.

11. ABC Family’s (Freeform's) Halloween Movies

I will never get sick of Hocus Pocus. Ever.

12. Christmas is Coming!

After Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas seem only that much closer and that just brings joy straight to my heart.

13. Halloween

DUH! There really isn’t anything better than Halloween – people are dressed up, you can get free candy from strangers without it being weird, and Halloween decorations are everywhere. Plus it gives you a free pass to be spooky and scare people for fun.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
