On March 31st, Netflix finally released a show that many have been awaiting: "13 Reasons Why". Although it may be deemed as sad or hard to watch, I think it is so important that everyone sees it. In 2017, it is so rare to watch something that touches everything that goes on in today's society. But, "13 Reasons Why" does just that. If you haven't watched it yet, you need to add it to your list.
1. It's Real.
The show is real. It is true. It doesn't hide anything. The show is a real reality of how society really is. They do not sugar coat anything and it opens your eyes to see that. It is hard to watch but it gives you a new understanding of how much your words can mean to someone.
2. You Learn a Lesson.
There are so many different lessons you can learn in this show. How you should act if you see someone being bullied, what you should do if someone is struggling, or why should say something before it is too late. Hopefully, these lessons change you for the better.
3. It's Relatable.
Whether you relate to Hannah, Clay, Tyler, or Courtney, there is someone everyone to relate to. There is also something everyone can relate to. "13 Reasons Why" draws you into why our society is so hard to live in today, especially being a teenager in High School. It touches on everything that goes on today and you can relate to it. It makes you see what sometimes I think everyone wants to hide.
4. It Is Why We Must Talk.
No one ever wants to admit there is a problem. Bullying, abuse, suicide, depression seems like it never occurs. Whenever it is brought up it is immediately shut down. "13 Reasons Why" is the exact reason why we must talk. Keeping quiet will not solve the problem. There should never be a reason why someone should want to commit suicide. Once the problem is over with then that is when it seems like everyone wants to talk. After Hannah Baker dies and everyone reads the tapes, then everyone wishes they could have reacted differently. Unfortunately, you cannot bring someone back to life. When there is a problem, it needs to be addressed. "The way we treat each other, and look out for each other. It has to get better somehow".
If you are struggling with depression or have suicidal thoughts, you aren't alone. You are worth more than you think.
