13 Reasons To Thank Your Brother

When I found out that I was going to have a baby brother, three-year-old me was a bit disappointed. I had pictured having a sister, someone to share my clothes and toys with, and to always play girly games with. A few years later, I realized that my brother was the best gift my parents could have possibly given me. He became my best friend, the person that always defended me, and one of the most important guys in my life. Here are 13 reasons why I am so grateful to have my brother in my life.

1. Always being on my side.

No matter what, you're on my side. Whether it's with something I believe is unfair with mom and dad or my latest drama, you constantly stick up for me and tell me I'm right, even when I'm not. You're the person to go persuade mom to let me leave Thanksgiving dinner early to hang with my friends and I'm forever grateful to always have you on my side.

2. Introducing me to cool toys.

Without you, I wouldn't have endless memories of our Nerf gun fights, lightsaber wars or be incredibly good at video games.

3. Constantly covering for me and never judging me.

I was always a good kid, but I did break the rules from time to time. Thank you for never telling my secrets, keeping your mouth shut when I had friends over when I wasn't allowed and never judging me when I stumbled into the house super late. The worst you ever gave me was a head shake and a smirk, but you never criticized my actions.

4. All the late night talks.

I can always count on you to come sit on my bed and talk about the world with me. Thank you for all always listening, your endless advice and agreeing with me when I'm having drama. Thank you for coming to me for things and valuing my advice always.

5. Never failing to make me laugh.

Even if it's when you're making fun of me. You crack me up on a daily basis and I can never get enough of your sarcastic humor.

6. For enduring the boredom of family events with me.

I am so lucky to have you to run and hide with when those boring family events run way too long. Even if we're just sitting around being bored together, it'd suck a lot more if you weren't there with me.

7. Putting up with all my annoying tendencies and loving me regardless.

Yeah, I'm a little high maintenance and get impatient when you don't answer my texts right away. I know I drive you nuts, but deep down, you love me for it.

8. Your honesty.

You say it like it is, even when I don't want to hear it. You're honest about the guys I've brought around and will always tell me the truth when I ask for it.

9. Giving me fun blackmail.

Like the picture of you playing dress-up with me or the funny things you used to say and do when we were younger. I will so bring these up at your wedding.

10. Helping me whenever I need it.

Whenever I have no clue with what I'm doing, I can go to you. You always can figure out why the Wifi isn't working, spew off history facts off the top of your head when I need them and are way better at math than me.

11. Teaching me about things I wouldn't have any idea about.

Thanks to you, I know a lot about fantasy football, know a ton about older bands and have random knowledge about miscellaneous stuff that you're passionate about. Without you, I would've never won a game in Triviacrack.

12. Your selflessness.

You're always trying to make things easier for me and would sacrifice anything to ensure my happiness.

13. Being my built-in best friend.

I guess I should thank mom and dad for this one, but my childhood wouldn't be as great as it was if you weren't a part of it. We continue to make the best memories and you're always in my corner no matter what. We've been through it all together and you know me better than anyone else. I love you so much!

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
