13 Reasons to be Happy Today

A lot of people waste time searching for happiness. They travel the world hoping to find the 'feeling' of happiness, but that's not the way to go. Life can be complicated and happiness can appear hard to find, so here are some reasons to be happy in everyday life.

1. You woke up. That’s already more than some people, so at least smile because you're breathing.

2. It’s a new day, and it doesn't matter what happened yesterday because today is a second chance.

3. There’s coffee. Doesn't matter what your favorite coffee shop is, there is coffee in the world.

4. Netflix is a thing. You can pick a show and legitimately spend the whole day binge watching it in your bed. If that’s not a reason to smile, I don't know what is.

5. Music exist. A simple tone can change you mood, so blast your favorite song and dance around.

6. You have a roof over you head and clothes that actually fit you. You have running water and internet access. You're pretty lucky.

7. Dogs. ’Nuff said.

8. Positive thoughts are contagious, so if you're happy, those around you will be happy as well.

9. You can travel. If you don’t like your view, go for a walk, hop on a train or ride a bike until you see something that changes your mood.

10. You can learn something new today. I know it sounds dorky, but there’s so much in this world that you don't know and today is as good of a day as any to learn something new.

11. You are loved. Whether you know it or not, you are very, very loved.

12. The sun came up today and the moon will be back soon. Darkness will never last.

13. No matter what, the weekend is never going to be more than five days away.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
