Disney is one of the wealthiest companies in the world, having a brand value of over $39 billion, and ranking number eight on Forbes's Most Valuable Brands list. There are seven major locations around the world that offer Disney resorts and/or parks. Being the lucky Disney-loving fool that I am, I can say I've been to four of the six theme parks around the world. However, after seeing Anaheim's, Orlando's, Paris's, and Tokyo's Disney parks, I would have to say without a doubt that Tokyo Disney is the best, and a must-do for any of my fellow Disney fans out there.
1. It is home to the only DisneySea in the world.
Just like Orlando houses the only Disney World, Tokyo boasts the sole DisneySea.
2. The staff is outrageously polite and helpful.
Although all Disney workers are nice, the already-polite Japanese culture combined with the happy Disney atmosphere makes for some very very helpful staff members. One time when I went to Disney, it had been drizzling. After the rain stopped, I decided to go sit down while I waited for my sister on a ride. I began wiping off the droplets from the seat when a worker ran over to me and used a towel and squeegee to dry the bench before bowing and letting me sit. Now that's top-notch customer service if you ask me.
3. Guests form lines to wait for character signatures and pictures.
Unlike other Disney parks where visitors crowd and push to get a photo with characters, Japanese guests patiently wait in a line for their turn.
4. Seasonal-flavored popcorn, churros, and other unique Japanese snacks can be found in different sections.
Strawberry, milk tea, soy, milk chocolate, cinnamon apple, cappuccino, white chocolate, honey, caramel, melon cream soda, curry, sea salt, and corn soup are just a few examples of popcorn flavors that guests can choose from. The honey flavor is even strategically located near the Winnie the Pooh ride, so the whole area smells like honey. Not to mention, there are many unique popcorn buckets that are sold and can be refilled for cheap.
5. Getting there is easy and cheap.
No need to worry about parking in a busy lot. The Japanese trains are user-friendly and the Maihama JR station connects directly to the Disney Resort Line.
6. The tickets are cheaper than other Disney parks.
While tickets for Disneyland in California or Florida cost nearly $100, a one-day adult pass for Tokyo Disney is just $75.
7. It is exceptionally clean for an amusement park.
Japan as a whole is a very clean country, and Disney is no exception.
8. Everyone loves to dress up and wear "kawaii" matching outfits.
Cuteness is valued in Japanese culture, and no place is that more evident than at Tokyo Disney. Couples and groups can often be spotted sporting matching Disney-themed outfits.
9. The souvenirs are much better than other Disney parks.
Disney parks are typically thought of as children parks, and the gift shops reflect that with toys and small trinkets. Tokyo Disney shops, however, are filled with more than just toys and ears -- they include practical and cute souvenirs such as stationery, phone cases and charms, kitchenware, linens, clothes and much more.
10. It is very safe and trustworthy.
Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. On one Disney trip, I left a tin of money on a bench. After finishing my snack and walking away, I realized I had left my tin, full of the yen equivalent to $50. I went back to the bench and when it was gone, I thought it was gone for good. Out of desperation, I asked a staff if they had a lost and found nearby. Despite the language barrier, I managed to explain what happened and she went to go look in the back. To my surprise, she returned with my tin in hand, and more importantly, all my money was still inside!
On another occasion, I reported a bracelet missing on my way out of the park. It was just a cheap leather bracelet, but I was delighted when about a month later, the bracelet was returned to me via mail. Another testimony to the honesty and safety of Japan and Tokyo Disney.
11. It sells more than just "park food" -- it's cute and delicious.
Many Disney parks sell "real food," but nothing is quite like the cute, yummy, and reasonablely priced Tokyo Disney food.
12. Tokyo Disney isn't just for kids.
While Disney in America caters to little kids, Tokyo Disney is enjoyed equally by adults and children. In fact, I would go so far as to say the adults often have the most fun.
13. You're located in one of the largest cities in the world without feeling like it.
Being in Tokyo Disney is like stepping out of the city and into a magical wonderland.
