DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movies) flooded the market throughout the 90s and early 2000s. If you were doing anything else but turning on the TV promptly at 8 PM, you were doing your evening wrong. Don’t tell me you weren’t mimicking the “You’re watching Disney Channel” mouse-wand bit that came up during commercial breaks (I’ll wait while you replay that scenario).
Along with DCOM evenings, your afternoons were filled with a combination of Disney and Nickelodeon teen sitcoms, and your school binder was filled with countless posters of your favorite child stars. (I have this one already, wanna trade?!)
Before Taylor Lautner was a werewolf in "Twilight," every girl wanted a piece of Lava Boy. Before Josh Hutcherson was Peeta in the "Hunger Games," everyone wanted to venture to Terebithia with him. These boys were cute and all, but what really mattered at the time were the girls, whose styles and personas were picked up by girls everywhere.
So let’s put our circa 2005 issues of Tiger Beat and Seventeen aside for a second to remember these teen stars’ crowning quotes while growing up. Keep a tally of how many times you find yourself saying these TV and movie quotes in the character's voices.
1. "When I close my eyes I see you for what you truly are...which is UGLY!"
-Amanda Bynes, "She's The Man" (2006)
There was nothing like shutting Olivia up!
2. "Ya NASTY!"
- Raven Symone, "That's SO Raven" (2003)
Possibly the best part of every episode.
3. “MILITARY SCHOOL?!”
-Hilary Duff, "Cadet Kelly" (2002)
We were just as shocked as her to find out her parents could be so mean, like seriously?!
4. “Sweet niblets!”
-Miley Cyrus, "Hannah Montana" (2006)
Who didn't say this in the halls at schools?
5. "If the sun isn't up, why should we be?"
-Aly Michalka, "Cow Belles" (2006)
Nothing like a good ol' Aly & AJ movie of 100% quality. We all wanted to be spoiled like them and buy anything our hearts desired but instead our lives were more like dropping the cell phone in the yogurt at the dairy factory.
6. "Perfect is boring."
-Lindsay Lohan, "Life Size" (2000)
There was no better way to teach us to be a star than this movie and you know it.
7. "EVERYBODY QUIET."
-Ashley Tisdale, "High School Musical" (2006)
No one can forget the time Sharpay was so powerful she shut up the whole entire cafeteria.
8. “What’s the sitch?”
-Christy Carlson Romano, "Kim Possible" (2002)
It's not impossible. It's Kim Possible.
9. "You think a pair of pants that fits all three of you is going to fit... all of this?"
-America Ferrera, "Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" (2005)
Still looking for that magical pair of pants...
10. "You're going to set that off in the RV?"
-JoJo, "RV" (2006)
Remember when Cassie (JoJo) knew better than to let her dad let off a stink bomb in their RV, but let him do it anyway? Her sass was in this movie was all of us.
11. "Oh, for the love of carbs, do we have to..."
-Alexa Vega, "Sleepover" (2004)
She says this when rules of the sleepover are being discussed. Why do I feel like this was the most underrated quote of 2004?
12. “SHUT. UP.”
-Anne Hathaway, "The Princess Diaries" (2001)
I beg your pardon?!
13. "You're a Cheetah Girl because of who you are and what's in your heart."
-Adrienne Bailon, "The Cheetah Girls" (2003)
WE'RE ALL CHEETAH GIRLS.
Why go into 2018 when you can go back in time? Next year should be all about binge-watching these classics with your besties. Throw on a choker and some hair clips, pop some pizza rolls into the oven and invite everyone over to appreciate these movie moments that defined our childhoods. That's the kind of support and quality time we all need in the future.
