Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Barbados for a week and I wanted to share some of the amazing sights, excursions, food, and drinks that they had to offer. If you find yourself looking for your next vacation spot, I would highly recommend considering this beautiful island. Here are 13 "must-do's" when visiting Barbados.
1. Swim with sea turtles.
Getting up close and personal with these beautiful creatures is a memory that will last a lifetime.
2. Visit Little Bay.
Located in the parish of St. Lucy, Little Bay offers breathtaking views. Standing on top of the rocky cliffs and watching the ocean waves crash to shore is definitely not a sight to pass up.
3. Go on a submarine tour.
Because how often do you get an opportunity to do this? The submarine takes you to depths up to 150 feet under water, allowing you to get up close with the marine life on the sea floor. You even get a certificate when the tour is finished!
4. Go off-roading through sugar cane fields.
Make sure you don't mind a little mud before considering this!
5. Visit Bathsheba
Located on the East coast, legend says that Bathsheba, the wife of King David, used to bathe in the mineral-rich water to keep her skin soft and youthful. Offering gorgeous views, and a little romance, Bathsheba makes for an excellent visit.
6. Snorkel a shipwreck.
If you're looking for an even bigger adventure, opt to scuba dive instead.
7. Visit Gun Hill Signal Station
Built in 1818, Gun Hill was part of a series of signal stations used to watch for approaching enemy ships. Because of its high elevation, you are able to see the south and west portions of the island.
8. Pet a monkey.
So. Incredibly. Cute.
9. Try their infamous rum punch.
Locals enjoy this beverage at any time of the day whether it's with breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert.
10. Visit Bridgetown Market
You will only be able to experience Bridgetown Market and its festivities if you visit during the Crop Over Festival. The entire Spring Garden Highway is turned into the largest street fair of the festival.
11. Try the local macaroni pie.
You have never had macaroni and cheese quite like the Bajan way. This local dish is a must try.
12. Take a jeep safari tour.
This island safari tour will take you to some of the places I have listed above, and will allow you to your almost the entire island of Barbados. They also offer a delicious buffet lunch at the end of the tour.
This trip was extraordinary and I hope this helps capture some of what the island has to offer. Barbados is truly a gem of the Caribbean.
