Woohoo! One of my favorite things growing up was coming home from school, tossing my backpack in the kitchen, having my Mom make me a snack and turing on the Disney Channel. Disney Channel has brought so much happy nostalgia to my life which makes me even more excited to write about it and share this with you. Every amazing memory from seeing Halloweentown for the first time, watching movies that were eye openers like Tru Confessions and The Color of Friendship and having no other way to ring in the holidays other than by watching my favorite Christmas movie, still is to this day, The Ultimate Christmas Present. I figured that if remembering these old Disney Channel moments brought a smile to my face, why not share it with my readers? Enjoy!
1. Halloween on Disney Channel
Quite possibly the coolest Halloween movies and themed episodes graced the television during the month of October. Halloweentown, the Hannah Montana episode where she had a twin...oh, the irony, and THE SCARIEST THING DISNEY CHANNEL HAS EVER DONE was The Suite Life of Zack and Cody Halloween episode where Estaban was like "Yo, guys, let's go in this haunted suite and let me conjure up these sprits and scare the living day lights out of everyone who watches our show."
2. That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana
What a mouthful that title is. This was honestly the best crossover episode that DC has ever done. Raven goes to Boston and stays at the Tipton and befriends Maddie and meets the twins and they also all end up befriending Hannah Montana. Whoa. Still makes my head spin, tbh.
3. Disney 365
I absolutely hated watching the news, still do. I always found that the news casters were always reporting such depressing and sad things. Pop on Disney Channel and all of a sudden Disney 365 comes on and I was so interested in the news! Plus, I've always been super nosy and getting to see into the lives of my favorite celebrities at the time was so cool.
4. The Lizzie McGuire Movie
NOW ON NETFLIX. I REPEAT. THIS ICONIC MOVIE IS NOW ON NETFLIX. THIS. IS. NOT. A. DRILL. That, if you ask me is totally what dreams are made of. And Gordo go out of the friendzone AND Ethan Craft got his spaghetti AND Lizzie met her twin! Wow. What a movie.
5. The Disney Channel Games
The absolute highlight of my summer. I thought it was so cool that all of the stars of DC got together to compete in Olympic-like games and I could see them doing stuff they normally wouldn't do. Who didn't want to see Mitchell Musso and Brenda Song in bright colors doing a three legged race?
6. The Cheetah Girls
The ultimate girl power movie (ha, get it, because one of their songs is Girl Power). I was so jealous of their matching cheetah track suits they wore at the end of the movie when they belted out Cheetah Sisters after Galleria's dog Toto falls down a construction site. And then they went to Spain in the second movie and India in the third movie??? Can you say jealous?
7. Tru Confessions
I really wanted to incorporate this movie into my article this week because NOBODY EVER TALKS ABOUT IT. This amazing movie is about a girl named Trudy who goes by the name of Tru and her twin brother Eddie who suffers from a mental disability. Originally wanting to submit a documentary with the hopes of getting her own tv show, Tru soon realizes that there is more to life than just winning popularity, its being there for her brother who can barley be there for himself. Go watch this.
8. Full Court Miracle
Growing up in a Catholic household, I didn't know that much about Judaism aside from what some of my friends who practiced the faith would tell me on occasion. Watching this movie about a group of boys who attend an all Jewish school that only wanted to play basketball made me realize that religious stereotypes are ridiculous.
9. Double Teamed
This girl power movie brought so much light to a male-dominated sport and turned it on its head to spotlight something amazing; the WNBA. This was the story of twin girls who grew up, practiced their basketball, and made it to the WNBA. I don't know about you but I haven't seen an empowering movie such as that one in a really long time.
10. Johnny Tsunami
When Johnny movies from his native land of Hawaii where all he does is surf and lay in the sun all day to a snowy place where he attends a strict school with even stricter standards, it made for a feel good movie. Good job, Disney. This movie, I feel, is a great coming of age movie. The whole transferring schools, staring all over, getting used to a whole new environment is something everyone experiences at least once in their life.
11. Cadet Kelly
This. Movie. Ugh. I never knew much about military school growing up, still don't. But when I first saw Cadet Kelly (now on Netflix as well [inner thirteen year old screams]) it opened my eyes to what life was like for someone in military school. Hilary Duff executed the role perfectly.
12. High School Musical
Don't lie, you know all the words to We're All In This Together and you just sang it in your head as you read that. You probably also compared every character in the movie to your friends IRL and still do. I'm the Sharpay, clearly. *snaps fingers twice over right shoulder*
13. Right on Track
I used to love this movie because growing up, all I did was dance and I loved it. But here was a movie about girls who were passionate about something at the opposite end of the spectrum that dance was on; drag racing. I thought it was so cool that the Enders sisters were able to make their mark in a male-dominated area and then have a movie made about them to show their accomplishments.
