"What are men to rocks and mountains?" - "Pride and Prejudice" by. Jane Austen
This quote is for my fellow existentialist out there. What is the span of a single human life compared to the immense vastness of the universe or the life of our Earth?
"Words can lie. See beyond them." - "Red Queen" by. Victoria Aveyard
There's nothing like a quote to remind you how much people can suck. I see strength in this quote. I see the potential to save one's self from being used by others.
"They filled my time - given me steadfast company with those characters, who did not exist and never would, but somehow made me feel less alone." - "A Court of Mist and Fury" by. Sarah J. Maas
If the article hasn't given it away, I love to read. This quote is from one of my favorite book series. Reading has always been an escape for me and this quote embodies that.
"Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh and cry and find meaning in life." - "Eragon" by. Christopher Paolini
When I come off the tail end of an amazing book, I realize that I have learned a different way of seeing the world after being immersed in their story.
"She says nothing at all, but simply stares at upward into the dark sky and watches, with sad eyes, the slow dance of the infinite stars." - "Stardust" by. Neil Gaiman
You'll start to notice a theme with these quotes that reveal the themes of my soul. There is something profound in the darkness. It's an element of our vast universe that is irrevocably understandable across culture and political divides. To stare into the limitless reaches of the night sky, is to remember our minuscule existence, or our potential for greatness.
"Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." - "Wuthering Heights" by. Emily Brontë
A quote list is never complete without a cliché quote from the Classics. It reflect the human need of seeing reflection and understanding within another so profound you can not escape it.
"The are different types of darkness. There is the darkness that frightens, the darkness that soothes, the darkness that is restful. There is the darkness of lovers and the darkness of assassins. It becomes what the bearer wishes it do be, needs it to be. It is not wholly bad or good." - "A Court of Mist and Fury" by. Sarah J. Maas
This quote is similar to the one from Star Dust. We will meld the darkness within us to anything that we need. Some thrive from the darkness, whilst it suffocates others.
"There are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy." - "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare
We will never fully understand everything that Heaven and Earth have to offer, but there's something humbling in that.
"One must be careful of books, and what is inside that, for words have the power to change us." "The Infernal Devices" by Cassandra Clare
After a long standing relationship with literature, you can understand why there is power is words. They speak to every group and put context to feeling individuals are unable to express.
"Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt." - "Slaughterhouse-Five" by. Kurt Vonnegut
This calls to my basic wants. I believe this to be a goal of humanity.
"And the rest is rust and stardust." - "Lolita" by. Vladimir Nabokov
I don't know if its the rhyming or the alliteration, but the quote beautiful. It summarizes in twofold; the belittling nature of our universe and the finality of our nature. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
"That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt." - "The Fault in Our Stars" by. John Green
Shoving your feelings down isn't the answer. Those feelings will bubble up to the surface, my experiences have taught me that.
"Sleep is my lover now, my forgetting, my opiate, my oblivion." - "The Time Traveler's Wife" by. Audrey Niffenegger
While all the other quotes are serious contemplations of purpose and understanding, I wanted to break away for the last quote. Come on guys. I'm a junior in college. How does this beautiful line of literature not resonate with me? #Sleepisfortheweak
