13 Life Lessons From 'How I Met Your Mother'

"How I Met Your Mother" is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. I only got to watch it once all the way through before it was taken off Netflix, but just in that time, I learned many important life lessons.

Here are 13 of them.

1. Everything happens for a reason

There is a purpose behind every little moment. Each little thing has a ripple effect.

2. Nothing good ever happens after 2:00 a.m.

Mistakes are made, things are said. Nothing good ever happens.

3. Wait for it

Don't rush anything or get impatient. The right person will come. The right time will come. It will come. Just wait for it.

4. Don't try to force something to happen that isn't supposed to happen

Nothing good can come out of this. If you keep trying to make a relationship or friendship or anything happen and it just does not fall into place, do not try to force it. It will not work out.

5. Stop being sad and be awesome instead

Enough said.

6. Don't be afraid of change

Change can be good. Take it from the girl that moved across the United States to go to college and experience new things.

7. "Whatever you do in this life, it is not legendary unless your friends are there to see it."

Everything is better when you are with your friends or the people you truly care about.

8. Not every night has a happy ending

And that is okay. We can try again in the morning.

9. "If you're not scared, you're not taking a chance. And if you're not taking a chance, then what the hell are you doing?"

Take a chance.

10. Love is the best thing we can do

Love is so powerful, and so underrated. Love can change and save lives. Show someone that you love them.

11. Happiness is not that difficult

It really isn't.

12. You can't cling to the past

There's not benefit to lingering on the past. You can't change it. There is no point in hurting yourself more by preventing yourself from moving forward.

13. Find someone who doesn't tolerate your quirks, but likes them

If they cannot like you and appreciate every bit of you, are they really the one?

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
