Now before you go bashing Taylor Swift saying "She's a serial dater," or "All her songs are about her ex-boyfriends, can't she write anything else?" Just remember that she's made more money than you.
But that's not the point of this article. The point is that Taylor has some good life experience that she has willingly shared through her songwriting, interviews, and social media. She "fearlessly" lives her life and without a doubt is a good reason why I love her so much.
1. You don't NEED a man to complete your life.
If you think you need a man to make yourself whole, think again. You want a man that complements you. After going through a few break ups, Taylor took a break from dating and found the man of her dreams. She found a man that she could do life with but yet didn't need because she knows who she is.
2. Secrets are best when they are well-kept.
Taylor always keeps her fans in the loop with what's going on in her life but she never tells too much. You also never hear about any scandals the involve Taylor. Most people claim that she must have a really good PR person but really she just doesn't have too much to hide.
3. Donate money to charity.
Ms. Swift is such a kindhearted, and caring person. She is constantly donating money, but never for the show of it. She keeps that on the down-low because it's not important about how much she donated, but it is the fact that she did donate money and didn't spend it frivolously like some other famous people would.
4. It's awesome to have a big group of friends.
Taylor Swift has what they call "squad goals." Some girls like to claim that hanging out with other groups of girls is too much drama. But, I saw a Tumblr post that countered that argument by saying "Have you read a history textbook? It's nothing but drama that MEN started." Her squad is constantly being the envy of all other squads. The Swift Squad is always having fun and who says you can only have one or two really close friends?
5. Boys can be stupid...
I mean this is kind of an obvious thing. As pointed out in her song "You Belong With Me," boys most definitely can be oblivious to the fact that you might like them or that you are the "right" girl for them. They can also be frustrating when they break your heart. As pointed out in many of her songs.
6. But girls can be stupid too.
It's not always the men that screw up. In Taylor's song "Back to December" she acknowledges that she is the one that messed up and she regrets it. Also "I Knew You Were Trouble" is the story of how she knew a guy would be a bad influence on her life but she chose to be with him anyways. She also talks about how her friend Abigail made a mistake in high school. So we learn from Taylor that everyone can be stupid and that it's a fact of life.
7. Be an advocate for what you believe in.
Taylor believes that every artist should get paid for their work and that they deserve money, no matter how popular or not the artist is. Taylor Swift had her music taken off of Spotify for this very reason, she believed that she wasn't getting enough royalties from her music. She also spoke out against Apple Music because of this as well. But Apple Music has fixed their issues, Spotify has not. But I admire her for standing up for what she believes and refusing to back down.
8. It's okay to be scared of growing up.
The first time I heard her song "Never Grow Up" I cried. Yes, I was only in eighth grade at the time but, this was the first time that I had really thought about growing up. I didn't want to move away from my family and friends. And I sure as heck did not want to start "adulting." But know that I am in college, those feelings are only stronger. Yes, this new adventure is exciting but I also want to still be the little girl I thought that I would always be.
9. Wear what you want to wear.
Taylor's style has changed and evolved throughout the years but, she is always a trendsetter. She doesn't follow popular fashion styles. She goes out in her unique style and rocks it FLAWLESSLY. Honestly though, Taylor would look beautiful in a brown paper bag.
10. It's fun to be a nerd.
Taylor is such a nerd about CSI and Grey's Anatomy that she actually named her cats Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson. It's perfectly fine to geek out over a tv show, a book series, or even a certain band that you really love. She embraces her love for those television shows and doesn't waver from her faithful watching.
11. You will have your heart broken.
This is definitely a lesson everyone needs to learn. I have had it happen once or twice and it's never fun. But we can learn from Taylor that having your heart broken is normal and eventually you will recover and come back even stronger than ever.
12. Love is worth the risk.
Going along with eleven, yes you might have your heart broken but opening your heart up and loving someone is totally worth the risk. If you don't, what if it suddenly becomes too late? Love everyone, even if it's not the romantic type of love. Let your family know that you love them. Let your friends know that you love them. Loving someone is always rewarding, especially if they love you back.
13. Haters gonna hate.
As poetically stated in her song "Shake it Off," haters gonna hate. There will always be people in your life that will be trying to tear you and your work down. There will always be people who doubt you and there will be people who try and take credit for your work or fame *COUGH COUGH KANYE* But if you ignore these people, life isn't that bad.
So learn these lessons that Taylor has graciously shared with us and as always, love to Taylor Swift and all the Swifties out there.
