Everyone has made an unrealistically long car ride at least once in their life and has vowed never to do it again. For those who have not, you are lucky. Driving is so exhausting, even though you are only sitting and staring for long periods of time. I pray you never have to experience a 10 hour car trip. But, here is a list of things that usually happen when you make those unbearable road trips.
1. You start out ready to face the road.
Here we go. 10 hours in this car? Gonna be easy peasy lemon squeezy.
2. You get some donuts and coffee to hopefully hold you over for half the drive.
All that sugar will make me super focused. Nothing can distract me now. Eyes. On. The. Road.
3. You get an hour in, but it feels like years.
Are you lying to me, clock? I have definitely been driving for five hours.
4. In order to survive, you put on your favorite music playlist, made specifically for this moment.
I have nine hours left. Hopefully I have enough Disney music to get me through this.
5. The inevitable rain storm hits.
So this is how I die. A monsoon in the middle of nowhere.
6. That one person comes up behind you at 100 miles per hour, but refuses to pass you.
I am in the right lane, A.K.A. the slow lane. Pass me already!
7. Out of nowhere, three trucks come up and surround you, and you pray for your life.
The scariest people on the road.
8. Your favorite song comes on and you roll down your windows to blast it.
I am sorry, minivan next to me. I have been driving for six hours. Everyone is going to hear this song.
9. You see a sign for McDonald's or Starbucks and you convince yourself you need it to continue on your journey.
Ancestors, hear my plea, help me past this craving thing.
10. The fact that you have been sitting for so long finally hits you and your legs cramp.
Need. To. Stretch.
11. You see people from places even farther than your starting point and question how long they have been driving.
You are from Canada? How have you been driving for so long? Can you tell me your secret?
12. Before you know it, you are on the last hour of your drive.
I am completely exhausted, but I am almost there. We can do this.
13. You see your destination and relief settles in.
You have made it and all that driving is totally worth it.
Even though driving on the highway is one of the scariest things I have ever done, the destination and everything afterward is always worth it. I would make the drive a million times to see friends and family, and I am sure a lot of people would do the same. Just remember, keep your eyes on the road and take breaks when you need to!
