I once again stayed up until three in the morning to binge-watch the new season of “Fuller House” as soon as it was released. Unfortunately, after episode seven I realized sleep was more important, so I took a four-hour nap, went to class, then watched the remaining six episodes. So I finished the season within thirteen hours which is still impressive.
This time, instead of reviewing the season, I decided to talk about the most important lessons that each episode taught me. Well, maybe not most important, but there are interesting lessons. To do this, without forgetting anything important from an episode, I took handwritten notes in a notebook for each episode. It felt a little strange because who takes notes about television shows? So without further ado, here are the thirteen lessons (give or take) from season two of “Fuller House.”
“Welcome Home”
Don’t wait on love. After spending all summer trying to find herself, DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) has finally come to a conclusion on her Matt (John Brotherton) vs. Steve (Scott Weinger) decision. Before she can make the announcement, though, Steve and Matt - who are now best friends - reveal that they’ve both found girlfriends. (I figured that’s not a spoiler since it was in the Season 2 trailer. So don’t be like DJ and wait on love. If you like someone, be honest with them so that way you don’t lose them to someone else.
“Mom Interference”
Never EVER trade bathrobes with someone. Especially someone who is smaller than you. Fernando (Juan Pablo di Pace), Kimmy’s (Andrea Barber) ex-husband/fiance, is now staying at the Fuller house (see what I did there?) and ended up wearing Kimmy’s pink robe. I’m all for people wearing whatever color or clothing that they want. But Fernando did not fit in the bathrobe, so when he bent down to pick something up, the rest of the family was scarred for life.
“Ramona’s Not-So-Epic First Kiss”
The title of the episode gives away that Ramona (Soni Bringas), Kimmy’s daughter, has her first kiss. Things soon get awkward when Ramona has mixed feelings for the boy. In this episode, Kimmy tells Ramona, “Make sure whoever you’re kissing is worth of you. Because you are precious.” That quote just really stuck out to me because so many people nowadays just jump into relationships for the physical aspects, but it’s important to think about whether or not the person is worth it.
“Curse of Tanner Manor”
Holiday episode one out of four was about Halloween. Jackson (Michael Campion) and Ramona felt too grown-up to go trick-or-treating, Kimmy and Fernando had a disagreement about their couple’s costume, and Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) got the opportunity to work at a haunted house. Another Kimmy quote that felt super relevant to this episode was, “Teenagers are like birds. If they fly away, they were never yours to begin with.” I’m just kidding. While that was my favorite quote of the episode, I think the most important lesson was that sometimes you can inherit your family’s “bad reputation.” One of Max’s (Elias Harger) friends announced to DJ that the Fuller house won’t have many trick-or-treaters due to Danny (Bob Saget) giving out raisins or healthy alternatives, rather than candy. As the episode shows, though, a Halloween party might be able to change people's minds.
“Doggy Daddy”
Max and Cosmo, the family dog, have such a great relationship. But when Cosmo has a minor health issue, DJ and Matt take the dog to their animal hospital. Unfortunately, Matt accidentally leaves his girlfriend Crystal (Gianna DiDonato) at DJ’s house. Things could have gotten very awkward, but Crystal understood that there was an emergency. So the lesson is, always make sure you have everything before you leave, especially your significant other.
“Fuller Thanksgiving”
Family is what life's all about in the second of four holiday episodes. This is just as true for the original series as it is for this sequel. It also happens to be the main lesson that DJ talks to Danny about since the whole family - minus Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) - showed up for Thanksgiving which caused some pretty significant drama. We also got to meet Joey’s (Dave Coulier) wife and four children which was a big part of the episode as well.
“Girl Talk”
Ramona was talking to a boy that liked her and she had my favorite quote of the episode. “Just because someone says no to you doesn’t give you the right to be a bully.” On some levels, what the boy had done to Ramona can be considered harassment, so I thought it was important for Ramona to stand up for herself. You don’t have to throw a fit just because you don’t get your way.
“A Tangled Web”
There were plenty of decent lessons in this episode, but my favorite was more funny than it is useful. Lola (Ashley Liao), Ramona’s best friend and Jackson’s kind-of-girlfriend, is going out of town and needs Jackson and Ramona to watch her dog, Spot. Except it wasn’t a dog. Spot is actually a tarantula. It’s always important to know what species of animal you’re expected to pet sit. Thankfully, Lola didn’t need them to watch her snake as well.
“Glazed and Confused”
There’s always a way out. This is a lesson that Jesse (John Stamos), Becky (Lori Loughlin), Fernando and Stephanie learn when they get trapped in the studio next to the one where “Wake Up, USA” is filmed. It might not always be an easy way out, but everything works out in the end. Another lesson was to not buy donuts from a store that isn’t up to health codes, but that one should be obvious.
“New Kids in the House”
If you sell one of your kidneys, you can get a lot of money. Enough to buy three front row tickets to your favorite boy band. Well, not everything went according to plan, but the idea still remains. Organ donation could be worth it. Just please, don’t try to kidnap the boy band when your original plan to get the tickets doesn’t work out.
“DJ and Kimmy’s High School Reunion”
There were FOUR appearances by “Full House” characters, so if you’re a fan of the later seasons of the original show, this is a must-see episode. The Obvious Lesson: Don’t throw rocks at beehives. Funny Lesson: Get you a significant other that is okay with being eye candy at events like high school reunions. Real Lesson: Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not just to impress people that you haven’t seen for years. It’s not worth it. (On a side note, don’t hand Kimmy the aux cord.)
“Nutcrackers”
The third holiday-themed episode, this time taking place on Christmas, focused on Ramona’s performance of “The Nutcracker.” Somehow Ramona is the Mouse King which brings Fernando’s quote, “It’s every father’s dream to see his little girl play a rat.” When one of the cast members is running late, Kimmy takes it upon herself to fill in. Instead of doing ballet, though, she does various nineties dances which makes a lot of sense. So the lesson is that improv sometimes makes a performance better. Or worse. It depends on if you think Ramona was successful in saving the show from her mother.
Side Note: Steve’s girlfriend CJ (Virginia Williams) and her daughter (played by Mckenna Grace who has appeared on “Once Upon A Time” which is just a fun fact that I wanted to include, don’t judge me) celebrated with the Fuller/Tanner/Gibbler families which was a little weird, but made my heart happy and so make sure to watch this episode if you don’t watch any more from this season. But actually, watch this whole series. It’s worth it.
“Happy New Year Baby”
The final episode of the season, also the final holiday episode, focused on getting ready for a New Year’s party. The overall lesson was about two different sets of “siblings”: Jackson, Ramona and Max being the first set, Danny, Jesse and Joey being the second. Both sets had arguments, but they all realized that forgiveness and love are more important because they’re family and, as stated before, family is what it’s all about. This episode also pumped me up for a potential season three due to the ending involving a baby, not Tommy (Dashiell and Fox Messitt), and a huge reveal for one of the three girls.
This season was amazing. There were so many important lessons along with some pretty humorous ones. Once again, I’m hoping for a quick renewal. If season three happens, we’ll see if I can stay up the full night (with no interruptions) to watch it. I hope you like this article. If you’re interested in seeing the other notes that I took, leave a comment here or on the social media that you found this article on. I also have some other thoughts, but this wasn’t a review article, so I have kept my mouth shut. You’re welcome.
