13 First Date Questions That May Or May Not Guarantee A Second Date
Awkward Human

First dates are beautiful.

Awkward tension passes as strangers come to meet and watch each other eat, or look at animals at a zoo, or attempt to ice skate. Through all this tension, some questions will be asked and answered to get to know one another. However, are there right and a wrong questions to ask on a first date? Maybe.

Here are some first date questions that may or may not guarantee a second date:

1. If you could rewrite history, what one thing would you change?

This is an easy-going first choice. It's light and easy, just pray that they don't say something completely terrible.

2. How would you react if you learned that a sad and beautiful poem that touched you deeply had been written by a computer?

Again, not too bad, but it might strike some weird geeky emotions.

3. Who do you think has it worse in our society, men or women? Why?

Great debate question. Horrible first date question. This one will most likely end in an argument heard across the entire building.

4. Do you think that the Holocaust was a conspiracy?

You should probably just avoid this unless you want to be slapped or arrested.

5. So, who did you vote for?

No no no no no no no.

6. What is the greatest thing you regret in your life thus far? Would you go back in time and change the situation if you could?

If your date enjoys 'deep' conversations, they may enjoy this one. Otherwise, they may just get incredibly freaked out.

7. Would you rather be honest 100% of the time or have all of your thoughts broadcasted to the world 24/7?

How embarrassing and secretive are they really?

8. Every time you have sex it takes one day off your life. How much do you have?

At least you'd learn a lot about them?

9. You want to break up with your significant other. However, if you do, you know for a fact that they will commit suicide. Will you stay with them and be miserable or break up with them?

Deep, disturbing, daring. Definitely not something you should ask on a first date when you know nothing about the person.

10. Would you rather die, saving 10,000 strangers from death knowing no one would ever know it was you, or live, knowing everyone would know you decided not to save 10,000 people’s lives?

This may or may not be way too dark for a first date.

11. Would you rather burn to death or drown?

This one isn't too bad, but it's a little difficult to answer and certainly not a light dinner conversation topic.

12. Do you have a preferred wedding date?

Hello creepy vibes, goodbye potential significant other!

13. If you were to die, would you rather have your body found on a pile of prints of your entire text message history or print of every selfie you've ever taken?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
