My girl Taylor Swift turns 28 this year. She's been at this music thing for over 10 years now and still manages to break records and dominate every awards show. As we celebrate another December 13th, another year of Taylor, and another album to play on repeat, I'm taking this opportunity to look back on 13 of my favorite Taylor Swift moments.
1. When she existed.
Taylor was born on December 13, 1989 in Pennsylvania. On this day, a true legend was born.
2. When she released the “You Belong With Me” music video.
Who doesn’t love Lucas Till and an adorably cliché high school dance scene of Taylor completely blowing everyone away. This was the first song I heard by Taylor, and where my love for her began.
3. The “Journey to Fearless” miniseries.
This cinematic masterpiece aired in 2010, and I watched it every time it was on television. It gave a behind the scenes look at the Fearless tour; this was when I became a true "Swiftie".
4. Her 2010 VMA’s performance.
This marks a turning point for Taylor, as this is one of the first times we see her referencing her past news in one of her songs. She performed her new song “Innocent,” which was written in reference to the Kanye West, “Imma let you finish, but…” incident at the 2009 VMA’s.
5. R E D.
If this isn’t your favorite album, I'm sorry but you’re doing everything wrong. Taylor was not well liked during this time period by the media due and social media, as very public relationships with Harry Styles and Conor Kennedy had people questioning her morals. But the Red album is an underrated lyrical masterpiece. Every song is a hit of its own. Sorry for the rambling, I’m just really obsessed with red.
6.The 2015 Grammys.
This is one of my favorite Taylor moments of all time because so many wonderful things happened. First of, she brought the “red head” ABIGAIL who inspired fifteen!! They bring new meaning to the word #goals. Taylor always finds a way to stand out every at every Grammys, regardless of how many awards she wins.
7. Speaking of Grammys, when Taylor sung All Too Well and ripped EVERYONE'S hearts out at the 2014 awards show.
This was pure art. One of her best performances of one of her best songs. I’m dropping the link here. Stop reading, go watch it, and then come back and finish.
8.Taylor’s 4th of July party.
In 2016, Taylor basically invented the 4th of July with her party at her house on the coast in Rhode Island. There were inflatables, and Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Ruby Rose were just a few of the guests in attendance.
9. When “new” Taylor was born.
The release of the 1989 marked the end of a country era and the beginning of something new and exciting. People were skeptical, and frankly so was I in the beginning. But Taylor somehow managed to remain genuine and true to herself in this new, transitional period, and 1989 is now one of my favorite albums.
10. The secret guests at the 1989 tour/the 1989 tour in general.
The 1989 tour is the first and only Taylor Swift concert I have ever been to, and WOW what a time. I laughed and I cried and I became even more obsessed with Taylor than I thought possible. She sang, she danced, she spoke WISDOM into my sixteen-year old self with her "clean speech" (if you don't know what I'm talking about, click here and educate yourself). Also Taylor’s #squad visited as secret special guests at almost every show and it was the most iconic thing ever (check out a full list of guests here). This was a good time for our gal.
11.When Kanye West bought Taylor flowers.
A feud that had lasted many years came to an end (well, for like a month) when Kanye bought her the most extra bouquet of flowers ever and the world enjoyed a few blissful moments of world peace. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t last.
12.When Taylor released reputation and TOLD OFF her haters/the media and did it in the classiest yet also most savage way possible.
Say what you want about reputation (or should I say, call it what you want), but no one can deny that this new Taylor is NOT messing around. After being hounded and torn apart by the media for years, this newest album is basically a giant revenge song to everyone who has done her wrong. And also, I currently have the album on repeat because it is the greatest ever.
13.When she spoke out about her sexual assault and became one of TIME Magazine’s People of the Year.
Possibly the most important of all. TIME magazine featured the women who have led the #MeToo movement which has encouraged many women to speak out against sexual assault. In August, Taylor went to court for being assaulted by a radio broadcaster in a room full of people, and she eventually. She had not gone public about the event until her interview with TIME magazine. You GO girl!!
Honestly, picking only 13 of my favorite Tswift moments was not easy. Excited to see what this next era and new year has in store!!
