This summer, I was lucky enough to spend half of my summer at school and the other half in my hometown. Nearly all college students can attest that being home, even for the smallest amount of summer, is always an interesting experience. At home, there is a sense of comfort and security that school sometimes lacks, along with a fully stocked fridge. At school, there is a sense of independence and recklessness that home just can't supply. For most college students, home provides a bittersweet detox and cleanse from your school lifestyle. Whether we like it or not, being home is good for us one way or another. Listed below is a summation of experiences that any "at home summer"-college student will understand.
1. Substituting your school schedule with a work/internship schedule.
2. Not having to play the, "How long can I make groceries last until I die?" game.
3. Realizing that you have at most five friends.
4. When all of your five friends are busy.
5. Also realizing that your parents are fun to hang out with.
6. Along with your pets.
7. When people ask what's been new with your life.
8. Getting to go to all your favorite hometown restaurants.
9. Watching Snapchat stories of people already at school or in summer school.
10. Watching your friends leave you to go back to school.
11. Leaving your college town and getting a harsh reminder of what "real adulthood" looks like.
12. Inevitably running into people you have been avoiding since high school.
13. The bittersweet (more sweet than bitter) feeling when it's time to go back to school.
