Sometimes we see actors, singers, and athletes and we don't really think about their heritage. I'm that person that's always curious as to what their background is, so I did some research. Here are 13 celebrities you probably didn't know were Puerto Rican. To be honest, some of these surprised me!


1. Julia Michaels

Her stage name is Julia Michaels, but her real name is Julia Cavazos. Her father, Juan Miguel Cavazos is Puerto Rican, but changed his name to John Michaels so that he can pursue his acting career.


2. Frankie Muniz

The former "Malcolm In The Middle" actor is half Puerto Rican from his father's side. His mother is of Italian and Irish descent.

3. Shar Jackson

You may remember her from "Moesha". The actor's father is Puerto Rican and Mexican and her mother is African American and Native American.

4. Freddie Prinze Jr.

The actor who starred in "Scooby-Doo" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is Puerto Rican on his mother's side and speaks Spanish!

5. Victoria Justice

The actress/singer's mother is Puerto Rican while her father is of English, German, and Irish descent.

6. La La Anthony

This television personality's parents are both Puerto Rican and considers herself to be Afro-Puerto Rican.

7. Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo is an NBA basketball player and husband to La La Anthony. His father is Black Puerto Rican.

8. Aubrey Plaza

This comedian and actress is Puerto Rican on her father's side.

9. Joan Smalls

She's a Victoria's Secret model who's been in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show from 2011-2016. Joan was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Her father is West Indian and her mother is Puerto Rican.

10. Bruno Mars

While he is known professionally as "Bruno Mars", his real name is Peter Gene Hernandez. His father is half Puerto Rican and half Ashkenazi Jewish and his mother was of Filipino descent.

11. Rosario Dawson

The actress' mother is Puerto Rican and Cuban.

12. Scotty McCreery


This "American Idol" alum and country singer is probably the most surprising on the list. His father was born in Puerto Rico and his grandmother is from San Juan, Puerto Rico!


13. David Blaine

The illusionists' father was of Puerto Rican and Italian descent.
