Working in retail honestly makes me question the sanity of some people. We've all had those days at work where customers make us lose every ounce of patience we have and it takes all our strength to keep our smile on and not lose our cool. Sometimes I think people actually enjoy making our day worse than it already is. Here's thirteen ways our so-called "guests" make us want to run to the back and scream for the rest of our shift. If you haven't experienced one of these instances yet and you work in retail, trust me you will.
1. When a customer approaches you and you greet them with the standard greeting of "Hi, how are you?" and they ignore you.
Some days I don't want to talk to people either, but it's my job to be friendly. The least you can do is respond when I speak to you.
2. When they throw their money in your face but you're still trying to ring their stuff up.
I'm clearly not ready for the payment yet. Put that away.
3. When you're not open yet but there's someone standing outside the door giving you the death stare.
Like, can I help you?
4. When you've stepped away from the register and the customer starts screaming "HELLO??" literally the second they walk up. Then they look at you like:
I'm sorry I made you wait an extra ten seconds?? Jeez.
5. When they take 5 years to dig in their wallet trying to find change.
It's not like I have other stuff to do or anything.
6. When you've turned off all the lights and people come up asking if you're closed.
Just sit back and think about how dumb you sound asking that.
7. When they ask if something is in the back and you tell them no and they're like "Can you double check?"
You think I haven't been in the back enough times to know what is and what isn't in there? Ugh.
8. When they give you a different amount of change after you've already typed in the amount on the register.
NOW I HAVE TO DO MATH AND I'VE BEEN PUT ON THE SPOT OH GOD.
9. When a customer asks to talk to a manager who you know will tell them exactly what you just told them.
Jokes on you bud.
10. When a you're talking to a customer and another customer interrupts and tries to ask a question.
Either wait your turn or walk away.
11. When they yell at you that they're never shopping here again.
Tell someone who cares.
12. When a customer gets mad at you for things you have no control over.
You sir, are a rude person
13. After you clean something and a customer goes and messes it up again a few seconds later.
100% done.
