Singing ditties, living in the woods and hanging with kids all summer comes pretty natural to those who work as camp counselors over the summer. When you live in the cabins for a week or two at a time it's hard to remember what civilization is like. You go into a restaurant in the town you are working to have people realize you are the outsiders that are just living here for the summer. But hey, your summer is filled with friendships bracelet making, laughing children, swimming in pools and lakes and most importantly, reliving your childhood. Here are just a few things that only camp counselors would understand.
1. You are used to having sunburn and mosquito bites 24/7, because no matter how much bug spray and sunscreen you put on - it's never enough.
2. There is no doubt that there is a friendship bracelet wrapped around your water that you carry with you at all times for when you or your campers are in the mood to make a bracelet or need to kill some time.
3. You look at your watch an excessive amount because you truly are never sure what time or day it is and you have to make sure you are on time to your next activity.
4. You have become comfortable sleeping on the floor with your campers to make sure they not only fall asleep, but also stay asleep.
5. You sometimes forget to lose your "counselor voice" that we all have when we are with are friends or family.
6. You feel disconnected from the world outside your camp, but in a good way.
7. You have some pretty sick farmer's tan lines that will probably never go away.
8. Along with your awesome farmers tan lines, you have got an awesome tan line from your shoes of choice whether they been Keens, Chacos or tennis shoes.
9. When you are with your friends from home or family, you have an urge to sing ditties as a way to pass time or get excited for something.
10. Your summer is spent making sure that your campers have the best summer of their life.
11. You are forced to break out of your shell and become a person you never thought you could become. You become more outgoing than you could have ever imagined, you always put your campers needs first and you always have a smile on your face because this is truly the best job you could have have ever asked for.
12. Last, but most certainly not least, when your campers leave at the end of the week your heart kind of melts because you are not sure when you are going to be able to see them again. However, you know that the memories you guys made will last forever.
