New Year's Resolutions are a great way to make a drastic or even small change to your life. They keep you on track with an exact day for a start time when many people are also starting that new life change. You can also make that change. Do not have anything specific, but know you need a change? Check these twelve great ideas below for a New Year's Resolution.

1. Spend more time with good people.

Surround yourself with people who actually lift you up and never hinder you from reaching your goals. You have probably heard this a million times, but it is important.

2. Stop procrastinating.

A major quality in many people creating a lot of unnecessary stress. Stop leaving important projects, paper, exams or anything else until the last second. Do your stuff early so you do not have to worry about a project due in 5 hours that you have not started.

3. Sleep more.

We all know that sleep is the number one thing you can do to better your physical, emotional and mental health. That means, get more of it, at least eight hours a night or whenever possible to catch up. Coffee cannot save you from everything.

4. Put yourself first, do what YOU want to do.

Make yourself your number one priority and all of the other things you have to do throughout the day will become much easier.

5. Save more money.

You will thank yourself in a few months or years from now that you did because now you will have a safety net and you can splurge on something you really want or a vacation you are really hoping to take.

6. Volunteer more.

There are so many places that need volunteers to help the word be a better place whether it be for people, animals or something completely different. Help humanity out a little bit more this year.

7. Treat others better.

If you treat others well they will most likely be nicer to you and be more willing to treat you better as well. You will be happier in the end, no matter what.

8. Meditate or take up yoga.

This can help de-stress your life and give you a moment to finally breathe and calm down from your hectic life.

9. Vamp up your wardrobe.

Have a little more boost in your step with new shoes to go with your new clothes. Confidence can increase if you think you look good. Like they always say, confidence is key.

10. Face your fears.

Whether it be spiders or moving across the country for your dream job. Take the risk you are afraid to take. Face the eight-legged creature crawling in the corner. You can get it away from you without it hurting you.

11. Travel more, see more.

The only expense that guarantees to make you richer. It can change your perspective on things or teach you things you have never known about the world and about yourself.

12. Eat healthier, exercise more.

The very generic, but very important New Year's Resolution. Spend the first twenty-one days of January starting this new habit. It may take a lot longer than twenty-one days to actually create a solid habit of it but, it is a great start to a healthier lifestyle.

You can do it. Make the change you want to see in yourself three months from now.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
