12 Ways to Destress During Finals Week

Happy Finals Week everyone! Okay, maybe not so happy, but whether we welcome it or not, it's here and there's nothing we can do to stop it. However, that doesn't mean we have to succumb to its pressure. There are a lot of things you can do to take some of the stress away!

1. Take stretching breaks.

Stretching will ease up your muscles after you've been cramming so you can go back to studying a bit more relaxed.

2. Eat. Eat. Eat.

During these times, it may be easy to forget basic human needs. Do NOT forget to eat! You will get tense and hungry and not be able to concentrate.

3. Take a nap.

You've been working pretty hard. You deserve a break, and what better way to reset your energy than sleep for a bit?

4. Call home.

Family. Always just one call away. Even five minutes on the phone with someone from back home can turn your day from stress to total chill.

5. Take a walk.

Yes, it is cold right now. If you decided to walk outside, the cold will wake you up. If not, just take a walk around your dorm or the library or wherever you're studying. It will clear your mind and have you focus on something else for the time being.

6. Do something creative.

Get those juices flowing! Everyone does their best work in a creative mindset. Don't question it.

7. Talk to your professor.

Although they may be the main cause of your stress right now, talk to them. They understand the stress of finals. They're not monsters. They will help you understand the material and maybe give you some advice! It is worth a shot.

8. Talk to your friends.

You are all stressing together. You can keep each other sane. They may even be a nice quick distraction.

9. Take a Netflix break.

This one may be risky but hey, like I said, you deserve a nice break. Watch an episode of your favorite show or maybe even two. Just do not binge! Finals week is not the time for that, and you will just make yourself even more stressed.

10. Go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Like i said before, you need sleep. I know as college students it's near impossible for us to get even close to eight hours of sleep. During finals, it is more important than ever to get as close as possible to that.

11. Listen to music.

Listen quietly. Jam. Just listen to it or sing along. Music can be a huge stress reliever and maybe even help you focus on what you're studying!

12. Doodle.

This goes back to being creative. Finals are a time of pure focus. There is not much allowance for something outside of the box. Make your own box and go outside of it. Do not let finals drag you down!

I know sometimes it's hard to look toward the end of finals. The holidays are coming and we all want to go home. We just have some obstacles to get through first. It will all work out! You got this!

Epic Creation Myths: Norse Origins Unveiled

What happened in the beginning, and how the heavens were set in motion.

The Norse Creation Myth

Now, I have the everlasting joy of explaining the Norse creation myth. To be honest, it can be a bit kooky, so talking about it is always fun. The entire cosmos is included in this creation myth, not just the earth but the sun and the moon as well. This will be a short retelling, a summary of the creation myth, somewhat like I did with Hermod's ride to Hel.

8tracks radio

We all scroll through the radio stations in the car every once in a while, whether its because we lost signal to our favorite one or we are just bored with the same ol' songs every day. You know when you're going through and you hear a song where you're just like "I forgot this existed!" and before you know it, you're singing every word? Yeah, me too. Like, 95% of the time. If you're like me and LOVE some good throwback music, here's a list of songs from every genre that have gotten lost in time, but never truly forgotten.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Which is none other than beer; wonderful cold beer. With summer playing peek-a-boo around the corner while we finish up this semester, it's time to discuss the only important part of summer.
