I was born and raised a Devron. That’s Devron like “Dev-rin,” not “Da-vron” or “Dev-ron". It's just Devon with an “r”.
Life as a Devron is equally exciting as it is exhausting. If you’ve got an unusual name, you know what I mean. Here are 12 truths I know you'll understand...
1. You’ve got a TON of nicknames.
It’s been broken down, turned around, adopted a few “y”’s and “ie”’s
2. When giving your name, you automatically spell it and give a brief explanation.
It ain’t no simple drop, it’s a small presentation.
3. You respond to any and everything similar.
You know those botched variations all too well.
4. When you hear a pause in roll call, you raise your hand.
5. When a stranger pronounces your name correctly, it actually makes your day.
SO exciting
6. People you’ve known for years still get it wrong, including family…
7. You’ve got a pen name for Starbucks and pizza deliveries.
Your friends laugh, but you know it’s necessary.
8. You’ve stopped correcting those few who simply cannot get it right.
Just smile and nod.
9. Name tags are pointless, you still get “hey, you.”
10. You often ask your parents, “Why…?!”
11. People probably don’t even know your last name.
It’s irrelevant and unnecessary information.
12. Your name is NEVER on those pre-made name bracelets.
And that was tough as a child. That was painful.
13. You’ve googled and Facebook "friended" the other folks with your name.
It feels good to know there are others out there.
