Since college move in day is quickly approaching for most of us, here are some tips that I wish I would have done for my move in day. Many of us are excited about moving into college and getting away from our parents, but move in day can be very stressful. I know for me, move in day was filled with a lot of emotions. These are some tips for move in day that can make your day go smoother.

1. Find or bring a moving cart

Depending on how your University runs move in day, sometimes schools will provide moving carts for students to make moving their belongings easier. But if all the carts are gone it is easier to have your own. Also some schools have returning students helping you move your belongings as well.

2. Pack your bedding last and unload it first

When you pack your car, make sure to pack your bedding last so that it is the first thing you unload. If you do this, you can make your bed first. This way you won't have to worry about having your bedding on the floor and you can use the bed as extra space for your things.

3. Put a cotton round in your makeup

For girls, I wish I would have thought about this. We all know how easy our makeup breaks if we drop it. This will save your makeup from breaking into little pieces.

4. Pack your clothes on hangers

With putting your clothes already on hangers it will save you from having to waste your day hanging up all your clothes. This will also give more space when packing. Plus, it will also make it easier to move your clothes from one spot to another.

5. Label all your boxes and bins

Make sure you label everything! This will make moving in really easy. Having everything labeled will help you because you then will know what you put in each bin and box. Also if your University has returning students helping you move in, make sure you have your stuff labeled like with your name and room number, this will prevent from anything being misplaced.

6. Tape your bins and boxes shut

Just in case anything were to dropped by accident, this prevent anything from falling out of the boxes or bins.

7. Use Press'n Seal Wrap to jewelry from tangling

For girls, this can be the biggest pain ever! No matter how we pack jewelry it seems to find away to get all tangled up. I wish I would have done this when I was packing. This will save your jewelry and also save you time from having to untangle it.

8. Pack cleaning supplies on top.

Along with your bedding, be sure to pack cleaning supplies where you can easily grab it. When you first get into your room, you will want to wipe down everything just make sure everything is clean before moving in all your stuff.

9. Take advantage of in-store pick up

This is based on your preference. Many stores offer in-store pick up. This will save you space in your car when packing because you won't have to worry about having enough room to fit a refrigerator or microwave. Like I said, whatever your preference is, I personally didn't do this but it could helpful.

10. Bring a handheld vacuum

When moving there is bound to be a mess. If you bring a small vacuum, it will an easy clean-up. You can also keep this for dorm room in general.

11. Keep fragile items easily accessible

If you are afraid of anything getting broken or damaged, keep it in a box or bin with you. Instead of having someone else move it, you carry it instead so you know nothing will get broken.

12. Keep your wall decor separate

The fun part of moving in. But this should be the least of your worries on move in day. Keep all you decorations in a separate box so that you can save it for after your parents leave.

Move in day is the first day of your new journey. All of these tips can help you have successful move in day. Best of luck to all the college freshmen and best of luck on move in day!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. "Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
