12 Times Michael Scott From "The Office" Perfectly Described College Life

As we absorb the world around us in its present state, it can take a lot of mental energy to digest many of the complex and difficult situations that are currently affecting many places around the globe. While combating these real-life problems is incredibly necessary and important, it is also important to slow down and even stop every so often to decompress and reset our minds. Many people may take a day of rest, but if you're anything like me and millions of other people, you may choose to immerse yourself in a world that is different from your reality, perhaps by watching an entire series of something on Netflix or DVR. For me specifically, there is one show in particular that is just a cut above the rest when it comes to getting my fix of laughs in on my day(s) of rest -- "The Office".

While there are many, many reasons to love the hit comedy series "The Office", one element in particular makes the show hilariously irresistible -- the characters. Fans may have differences of opinions on which character brings on the most laughs, but there is one character in particular who is known for his hilariously cringe-worthy antics, and that is Michael Scott, played by award-winning comedian and actor Steve Carell.

I fell in love with "The Office" post factum -- like many others, I binge-watched the entire series on Netflix over the course of this past year, which happened to be my freshman year in college, and I found that Michael Scott had some hilarious (and many times iconic to the show) quotes and expressions that relate perfectly to college life.

1. TFW you first arrive on campus for the year.

Whether you're a first year or a seasoned upperclassman, that first day on campus is always exciting.

2. Seeing your best friends around campus.

--especially if you've just come back from a three-month hiatus.

3. Trying to decide on a major like...

The struggle is very real.

4. When you have a bad day in class.

"Why don't you explain this to me like I'm a five-year-old?" -Michael Scott

5. The college life diet.

-or Ramen. Or pizza. Or EasyMac.

6. When you use your social life to distract from the responsibilities of school.

Party it up, or stay in and share pizza and an entire pint of ice cream. Whatever floats your boat.

7. When the end of the semester hits.

Learning the hard reality that procrastination doesn't work here.

8. When you ditch homework for Netflix.

We have all been there.

9. Writing term papers, theses, final essays, etc...

Another reason why procrastination is never a good idea.

10. After you make a payment... for the semester.

Sigh.

11. Checking your midterm grades after slacking for half the semester.

Note to self: STOP PROCRASTINATING.

12. When you kill a final you studied for countless hours on.

You go, Glen Coco.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
