Hannah Montana taught me a lot of things at a young age. "Nobody's Perfect," "Life's What You Make It," life's a "Climb," some people will be with me "Wherever I Go," and you really can have "The Best of Both Worlds." The show also helps to describe the daily thoughts and experiences of college students. You think I’m lying? Take a look.
1.
The general reaction when we come home and people ask if we have a boyfriend yet or if we're at least seeing anyone and they act surprised when we say no. I mean I know I’m quite the catch but I’m not a miracle worker. Give me some time, not everyone can have what Ronnie and Will had in "The Last Song."
2.
Granted, some college students aren't teenagers anymore but it still holds true. It really isn't a good idea to binge-watch Netflix for five hours instead of writing a paper or close down the dining hall instead of the library, but we still do it. The result? Stress and zits. We're college students, it's what we do.
3.
It doesn’t get much better than walking into the dining hall in the morning and smelling bacon. It gets you ready to take on the day. A great source of protein and happiness. What more can you ask for?
4.
It's probably safer if most of us, including myself, simply stop talking. When you're in the moment or completely sleep-deprived you're not going to be able to form proper thoughts so keep quiet before you say something you don't mean. Or don't, it makes for an interesting conversation.
5.
When your alarm goes off, whether it’s at 6 a.m. for morning practice, 7:30 a.m. for that 8 a.m. class or really any time at any point in the day, this is going to be your response. Nothing compares to the feeling of burying yourself in blankets to the extent that your roommate doesn’t even realize you’re there when they walk into the room.
6.
The facial expression and the phrase describe me as I sit through class. Or maybe this is your reaction to hearing about the weekend. Honestly, it’s my general reaction to everything in life. Essay prompts, the first question on the bio exam, no yogurt left in the dining hall, you get the point.
7.
Here, read these chapters by Monday for this class, write an essay for that one and don’t forget about the exam that’s coming up. Yeah, I’ve wanted to say this to a couple of professors from time to time but hey, time management is key I guess.
8.
When somebody asks a question in class that you think is beyond obvious. When your best friend decides to watch Netflix and take a three-hour nap when they have a paper due. When you order dominoes and then fall asleep before it comes. Yup, this is your reaction to all of the above and so much more.
9.
Kimball claims taco Tuesday is coming up and it just doesn’t happen. Your friend says they’ll meet you for breakfast before class but then sleep through it and you end up alone. Your friends say they'll text you where they end up off campus and you end up wandering in the cold. Sometimes people just don’t pull through.
10.
I don’t think this one needs much explanation. Stress eating, eating your feelings, whatever it is it seems like the only option and an hour later you begin to regret it. But, hey, do what makes you happy in the moment right?
11.
The impossible task of deciding what to wear. Do I dress up today or do I resort to my faithful yogas and sweatshirt look? How do I dress for the wind and the warmth that comes with living on a hill? Is it a flannel night or a dress to impress night? When it really comes down to it, the groutfit always wins. Flattering and easy on the eyes, what more can you ask for?
Ten years since the pilot episode of "Hannah Montana" aired and we can still relate to this teen pop sensation. I'd call that a success. Thanks, Disney Channel.
