12 Times Dr. Seuss Sums Up "Finals Season"

With school coming to an end, many are finding better ways to keep their motivation. Dr. Seuss’s story books were some of the most unforgettable books that we read as children or even still as adults. You ever stop to wonder whether he was just describing the emotional roller-coaster that is finals?! Yeah me neither, until now. I compiled quotes from Dr. Seuss’s works that perfectly describe these last moments of the semester

1. Rereading all the chapters because you literally just don’t know what else to do.

“You have to be a speedy reader because there’s so so much to read.”
-I Can Read With My Eyes Shut

  2. When it clicks and you finally understand!

“I will not eat them in a house, I will not eat them with a mouse, I will not eat them in a box I will not eat them with a fox, I will not eat them here or there I will not eat them anywhere, I do not like green eggs and ham I do not like them sam I am”
-Green Eggs and Ham

3. When you need motivation because you feel like a failure...

“When you think things are bad,
when you feel sour and blue,
when you start to get mad…
you should do what I do!
Just tell yourself, Duckie,
you’re really quite lucky!
Some people are much more…
oh, ever so much more…
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you!”
-Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?

4. Making the most of studying with friends...

“I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny.”
-The Cat in the Hat

5. Looking at your current grades and calculating the scores you need to pass...

“It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become.”
-The Lorax

6. Losing your sanity after long hours and no sleep...

“From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!”
-One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

7. When you've lost all hope and want to cuddle with the weirdest things!

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful one-hundred percent!”
-Horton Hatches the Egg

8. Remembering your GPA could haunt you later...

“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.”
-Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

9. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel...

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
-I Can Read With My Eyes Shut

10. Giving yourself that last-minute pep-talk...

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
-Happy Birthday to You!

11. Redoing the same exam question multiple times, 5 minutes before time is up, because your brain finally decided to kick into overdrive.

“My trouble was I had a mind but I couldn’t make it up!”
-Hunches in Bunches

12. At the end of the day...

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
-Oh, The Place You’ll go!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
