Graduation season is coming. If you're a senior, well done; you're finished with syllabi for a while and you've worked hard to get where you are now academically, socially, and emotionally. But, if you are not a graduating senior (like me) you are now coming to grips with one of the most emotionally heart-wrenching times of the year. It is, in fact, the crushing, social realization that all your best friends are upperclassmen and thus graduating seniors and therefore the world ends. They are some of your smartest, savviest and most wonderful life-buddies you can't believe they won't be around next year! Here are 12 thoughts every student has when their best friends are graduating seniors.
1. Oh my gosh, you were so cool and intimidating when I first met you!
Maybe it was the way they answered questions in class, or maybe it was that confident act telling the best coffee shop int town. Whatever it was, you've definitely had the moment when...
2. OMG I need to be friends with this person, but he or she is an upperclassman!
3. But then something A-MAZING happened: everything was fine and you two became friends for life.
4. You and your friends did awesome stuff together.
5. You shared deep moments.
6. Upperclassman friends are fantastic.
7. The school year flies by.
8. Then: you realize: I ONLY HAVE TWO WEEKS LEFT WITH THIS WONDERFUL HUMAN. They are leaving!
9. You realize you may not ever meet someone like them again.
10. You try to deny the inevitable, but really:
11. Then you remember everything they have ever taught you.
Their one year of experience has meant so much to you as you live life and learn to love better. You wouldn't be the person you are today without their influence. It is amazing what people can accomplish in a year just by being friends.
12. Of course, you will be devastated (sad) to see them graduate.
You, in a sense, have befriended inevitable heartbreak. But, you are both better people for it, and you wouldn't change your relationship for the world!
