Although it may be a new year, there are some things that just don’t seem to change. That means all of the ups and downs of college we’ve become so familiarized with are back. As school is fast approaching, it's time to prepare ourselves for what's to come.

Here are 12 thoughts all college students have:

1. I regret scheduling an 8 or 9 a.m. class.

"It won't be that bad," they said. That is until it really was that bad.

2. How does one survive without caffeine?

Whether it's a grande iced coffee from Starbucks or a 5-Hour Energy shot, we all have our tricks that help us stay awake.

3. I need to take naps on the daily.

Naps aren't just for little kids you know. If anything has gotten me through college so far, it's by taking a nap.

4. I will definitely be hitting the snooze button at every attempt to wake up.

It's hard to face reality, so what's so wrong with putting it off for a few extra minutes?

5. Late night food runs are always the move.

When your late night cravings kick in, the answer is always yes.

6. I’m broke and then I’m really broke.

College has drained my bank account to the fullest. Even when I'm broke I spend money that I don't always have, making me really broke.

7. I’m always on the grind.

There's never a boring moment when you seem to always have something to do.

8. Should I go out the night before an exam?

You know you shouldn't, but it's very tempting to do so.

9. Is pulling an all nighter worth it?

Whether you have an exam the next day or have procrastinated your workload, there's at least one time during the semester where this thought has crossed your mind.

10. I’m always drawn in when I hear the word ‘“free.”

It's hard to turn down free anything. Especially when you're broke, remember.

11. I always have to listen to music when I walk around campus.

There's hardly a time that you won't find me without my earbuds. Listening to music makes your day just that much better.

12. Does this questionable decision seem like a good idea?

We've all been down this road.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!
