A lot of us like to think of ourselves as laid-back, go with the flow kinds of people. And some of us definitely are. But then there are others who try their hardest to be "chill," but usually end up needing a little more structure. These are things you know to be true if you're just a little high maintenance:

1. You can sleep anywhere, under some conditions.

It can't be too hot, or too cold. And it needs to be dark. With maybe a fan on? But not super loud or anything. Really, you just want to be in your bed at home.

2. And speaking of sleep, you need a healthy amount of it.

Staying up late can be fun, but you definitely need to be home at a somewhat reasonable hour. You're not the kind of person to pull all-nighters recklessly. The same goes for waking up early - if you don't have to, you definitely won't.

3. You prefer to shower every day.

You know it's totally normal for college kids to go a day or two without showering...but you're not one of those kids. It's not like you can't function if you wake up late and have to skip it, but you'll spend the rest of the day very aware of your hygiene status.

4. Because hygiene is important.

You like to look nice, smell nice, and feel nice. People might make fun of your excessive nighttime and morning routines, but you just keep doing you.

5. Food needs to be readily available.

The stomach wants what the stomach wants. And sometimes you can be a little impatient about it. Going "too long" without food (meaning, a few hours) will take a serious physical and emotional toll.

6. And it needs to taste good (please).

Being a little high maintenance also means having some mildly picky taste buds. Oh well.

7. Honestly, you're just kind of useless when you're tired and hungry.

The combination of the two means you're down for the count. You'd like to say you're still functional when your stomach is empty and your energy is low, but then you'd be lying.

8. Also when you're mildly sick.

A day of bad allergies means a day of lying in bed. Good luck trying to get anything done.

9. You're probably not good at "roughing it."

Sure, camping sounds fun in theory, but once you're actually there you realize how much you like to be inside. You also realize how underappreciated indoor plumbing is.

10. And even somewhat extreme weather has no place in your world.

Too hot? Ugh. Too cold? SOS. Rain? You might as well just stay inside all day.

11. You just don't handle minor inconveniences as well as most people.

A broken A/C unit or flat tire feels more like a mini apocalypse. While others may take these things in stride, but you're much more likely to have a minor freak out.

12. You're not needy, but...

You're definitely a little high-maintenance.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
