12 Things You Want To Do This Year (But Won't)

Will you REALLY work out 5 times a week?

12 Things You Want To Do This Year (But Won't)

With summer break coming to an end, we set goals for ourselves in hopes that this year we just might become a better person while away at school. We tell ourselves we’re going to work out, eat healthy and stop cramming for tests the night before, but after a few weeks pass we decide these aren’t realistic and quickly fall back into our old ways. So, here are 12 things you’ll tell yourself you’re going to do this year, but probably won’t.

1. Keep your apartment clean

We move in and it's neat, but soon enough we start hoarding random junk and we seriously consider buying one of these curtains.

2. Get a 4.0

We strive to do our best, but really who are we kidding. A 3.8 is good... or maybe a 3.5. You know what, I'll just take a 3.0.

3. Stop going out on weeknights

Weekdays are for studying, weekends are for parties. But I'm sure one Wednesday won't hurt!

And going along with that....

4. Drink less

Of course you don't need that whole bottle of wine to have fun, but what will it hurt, right?

5. Go to the gym every day

I'll go for the first week because I really do want to be in shape, but my bed just looks so much more appealing.

6. Eat healthy

At most schools, the dining hall has some questionable items that you really don't want to ingest. We should cook for ourselves; but Ramen Noodles, Easy Mac and McDonalds seem so much easier.

7. Study more

We all want to do well and be successful, but studying is just so hard, and soon enough we're at the library scrolling through Tumblr instead of paying attention to our books.

8. Look presentable for class

Sometimes I'd like my classmates and professors to know I don't always look like a little Gremlin, but waking up early and getting ready every day just isn't worth it.

9. Get involved

Every year you see the activity fair at your school and sign up to get emails from 26 1/2 different clubs, but you'll probably just end up going to one and getting useless emails from all the rest for the duration of the year.

10. Wake up early on weekends

It would be so much easier if we got up early to do our laundry and start on next week's work, but we'll probably just sleep in until 2pm most of the time.

11. Get to know new people

Expanding your horizons and making new friends is great, but maybe I have my friends for a reason.... I don't need more than three.

12. Call your family more often

We love our families and want to talk to them, but do you really have time to call your second cousin and step-aunt once a week? A call to the parents every now and then should suffice.

To all the college students out there that set these goals and never keep them, know you're not alone. But hey, maybe one or two of these will stick this year.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
