As an under-qualified young adult, job prospects are mostly limited to fast food, retail, and babysitting. Although each minimum wage opportunity has its pros and cons, my job as a babysitter have taught me so much about responsibility, multitasking, and myself.
1. Obviously, you like kids.
You might even prefer kids to animals.
2. Your diet basically consists of graham crackers, fruit snacks and yogurt.
Kids snacks are the best snacks.
3. Nap time is the best time.
Having a built in, paid break? Yes, please.
4. Finding a kid appropriate music in your personal music collection can be a struggle.
Unless there is a specific song request, it can take time to find a song that won't swear or talk about ~inappropriate~ behavior.
5. There is no such thing as too much cleaning.
Most kids are like walking hurricanes. Wherever they go, a trail of fingerprints, toys and crumbs is sure to follow.
6. You LIVE for babysitting in the evening.
For some reason, evenings are so much more fun.
7. You may or may not have (a ton of) pictures of the kids on your phone.
"These are the kids I babysit, aren't they so cute?" is a common phrase of yours.
8. Holding hands when walking or crossing the street becomes second nature.
Sometimes the height difference is a little awkward, but that tiny hand wrapped around your finger makes you feel more adult.
9. Sometimes the kids get mistaken as being your own children or siblings.
No, I don't share any DNA with these adorable kids, but I'm flattered that you think so.
10. You might be known as the mom of your friend group.
Does everyone have sunscreen on?
11. Potty training is as exciting for you as it is for parents.
Goodbye diaper changes, hello independent bathroom usage.
12. You get to make actual connections with families, which last longer than some of your friendships.
You look forward to seeing them almost as much as seeing your own family.
13. You marvel at how parents can do it all.
By actually, how DO they do it?
