There are many things we need to thank our dogs for, so how do we know where to begin? I've had my dog for 5 years now and I find there are many things to thank her for, none of which she'll ever be able to understand (whose bright idea was it to make dogs not understand english, huh?!). I'd like to think I show her in my actions though, like through belly rubs and kisses. With that being said, let us discuss 12 things you should thank you dog for...

1. Always being the first to greet you, whether it be in the morning, the afternoon, the evening, or as soon as you get out of the bathroom. It doesn't matter how long you've spent apart, they're always right there to say hello when you get back.

2. Teaching you, as a human, to forgive people but not necessarily forget what happened. For instance, don't sit too close to the table because inevitably the newspaper will fall on you but still coming to give you a kiss because it wasn't done on purpose (right?).

3. Being your shoulder to cry on. Well, maybe not your shoulder but they always seem to find their way onto your lap and lick away the tears.

4. Making sure they always lick all the sweat off after a good workout - dogs must really like salty things.

5. Always letting you know when there is a vicious killer at the door (like the mailman for example) and barking in plenty of time so we can all hide from him.

6. Always making sure the floor is spotless, after all, you never know when someone important might be coming over.

7. Keeping everyone on their toes when it comes to any kind of food dogs cannot eat. Speaking of which...

8. Making sure everyone is well versed on things that dogs can and cannot eat, and assuring anybody who comes over knows that same.

9. Always keeping the neighbors in check. If the dog doesn't get a carrot, the dog doesn't like you. If the dog doesn't like you, we don't like you. Simple as that.

10. For always being the best listener...it's not like they have much of a choice, but still, they listen well.

11. For always dragging you out to go for a walk and keeping you somewhat in shape

12. And lastly, for always being your best friend..unconditionally..after all, there is no better friend than your dog

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
