Wowza! 2017 has passed already, my friends. It’s insane. I hope all of you had a wonderful and magical year. Sometimes we get so caught up in the moment that we forget what’s right in front of us, and I think a lot of us practice this annually. Alas, the year has flown by, and we’re basking in the last month. May 2018 bring you everything you have ever wanted and most of all--happiness! But, in this last month of the year, if you need a little pick-me-up, here are some things to look forward to in 2018:

1. Sunflowers.

Can you believe it? Sunflowers will rise again in 2018. Think of all of the wonderful sunflowers coming back to life. It will be a wonderful and majestical experience. This year, you should seek to pick some of the world’s prettiest flowers and give some to your friends and family. Bonus: sunflowers make for great decor!

2. 2018 Winter Olympics.

Yes, the Olympics are coming back this year, and they will be held in Pyeonchang, South Korea. Get ready for your favorite skiers and ice skaters to make an epic return!

3. New things to write.

A fresh start is something we all need! You can buy a new journal and write whatever the heck you want in it! Start a blog, make viral tweets, come up with a clever Instagram caption, start a journal, write for Odyssey...the options are endless! Write your heart away!

4. Summer freedom.

Feeling sad in the winter? Don’t forget that right around the corner is the first day of summer! This happens annually, but there’s something so refreshing upon taking your last final and speeding down the highway jamming to your favorite tunes and anticipating hugging your dog. Freedom at its finest.

5. Movies.

Movies create such a great experience for many. No matter what’s going on in life, a good movie has the power to make a proficient change. Look out for Jurassic World 2, Incredibles 2, Ocean's 8, Barbie, and much more! Get pumped movie buffs!

6. Spring cleaning.

Not only is springtime a great excuse for redecorating, but 2018 is also such a new and fresh year, that it will be impossible to resist change. Take this time to reflect on your home space--do with it what you will--and create an environment you truly love.

7. New puppies and kittens!

Millions of puppies and kittens will be born in 2018. Think of all of the tiny little fluffers running around. They will all require names, homes, and infinite love and attention, so be sure to swing by your local animal shelter and adopt!

8. 2018 FIFA World Cup.

This event will take place in Russia and will be sure to wow spectators! This sporting event is another great one to host a party to, or you can invite a bunch of friends over and cheer for your home countries. Also, it’s a great excuse to make themed desserts.

9. Fall semester.

Fall semester is always better than spring semester--academically speaking. You are more determined and rested! Be pumped for fall 2018, get the classes you want and deserve, create a stable routine, and work hard, but don’t forget balance!

10. Women driving in Saudi Arabia.

On June 24th, 2018, Saudia Arabia will officially allow women to drive! This is going to be an epic and historical day. Keep your eyes open for more societal changes happening after this.

11. Sunrises.

I love a good sunset, but for me, a sunrise is unlike no other. Being awake in that moment and seeing the new day is so pure and wonderful. Good news for me, and those in agreement with me, 2018 will have 365 sunrises! YAS QUEEN SUN!

12. Christmas!

2018 will bring another Christmas--how can we be so lucky? Let’s vow to watch Polar Express every day in the 2018 holiday season, because we’ve totally never done that before (pshhh…).

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
