12 Things To Do During Winter Break

If your winter break is extremely long, chances are that you've been bored at least once. If yours is longer than your friends' breaks, then that boredom will only grow. Though winter break is enjoyable and restful in the beginning, it can seem like it lasts an eternity once the initial euphoria is gone. If you're starting to feel your winter break drag on, this list is just what you need to help you make the most out of your break.

1. Sleep

Rest and relaxation are classic, integral parts of winter break. Take this time to fix your sleep schedule -- or revel in the fact that you can afford to have a totally messed up sleeping pattern.

2. Netflix

Relax with some Netflix over break. Not only is it a good way to unwind, but it'll also give you some talking points for when you're reunited with your friends or you meet new people.

3. Go to the Movies

Alternatively, you could leave the house and stretch your legs while having an enjoyable movie watching experience with some friends.

4. Hit the Gym

This free time could be very well spent improving yourself. Work on that physique this break; you can even make it a group activity and work out with friends and family.

5. Check Out a Museum

Explore a museum or two over break. This is the perfect way to spend time with friends and learn about something you didn't know before.

6. Do Some Cleaning

Whether you live on your own or with your family, there's no downside to doing a little bit of tidying up. It relieves stress, prevents infection, and even improves concentration, so get to dusting!

7. Visit Your Old School

If you live near your old school, pay them a visit. Seeing your favorite teachers or your younger friends is a great way to spend a day out of your break -- especially if your old school offers free lunch.

8. Do Some Shopping

Maybe there are a few people you haven't gotten gifts for yet. Since the holidays are over, it's the perfect time to take advantage of some great deals.

9. Take a Trip

Whether it's a drive up to the nearest city with some close friends or a tropical vacation with family, a nice trip is the ideal break activity. Do some sightseeing with loved ones and pick up a few souvenirs; you won't regret this change of scenery.

10. Eat Everything

The holidays are why leftovers were invented. Live on comfort food or try out some different restaurants; it's the perfect thing to do with a group, and it can also help you to discover new favorite foods.

11. Read Up

Take this time to catch up on current events; a lot is happening in our ever-changing world. You should also pick up some new books or revisit old favorites to pass the time during break.

12. Prepare for Next Semester

Even though it can feel like it, winter break won't last forever. Prepping for classes you expect to be extremely difficult or getting back to school shopping out of the way might be a good way to spend the rest of break.

In conclusion...

Winter break can be a great time for reconnecting with friends and spending time with family. Unfortunately, while it provides a great opportunity for recovering from school, it can be a bit slow at times. But fret not, because whether you stay in with a good movie or a book or you go out and catch up with friends, you won't be wasting your time as long as you're enjoying yourself. Kiss boredom goodbye and savor what's left of your winter break!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
