If you are a college kid, or a recently graduated college kid you definitely remember how great Halloween and the month of October was lit. The days before the rage of pumpkin spice lattes, twitter, Facebook, and iPhones. Halloween and the month of October are still pretty great, but things have definitely changed.
Here are 12 things that will give you some big-time nostalgia of Halloweens past!
1. "Halloweentown"
Quite possibly one of the best movies of our time. A lot of us probably still wait for it to come on Disney every year just so we can relive our childhoods, or you went out and bought the combo pack DVD with "Halloweentown" and "Halloweentown II" on the same disk! What is "Halloween" without hours and hours of "Halloweentown?!"
2. "Hocus Pocus"
This is almost a given, and this movie just like "Halloweentown" is timeless and just as amazing as it ever was. Nowadays you can even get Sanderson Sister costumes! Say it with me, "Amuck! Amuck Amuck!"
3. Skulls And Bones Sweet Tarts
It's sometimes hard to find these in the grocery stores these days, but Skulls and Bones Sweet Tarts just seemed to taste better than regular sweet tarts. Everyone wanted these in their trick or treat buckets!
4. "Casper Meets Wendy"
We can see grown-up Hilary Duff these days on the TV Land Comedy show "Younger" but just like "Hocus Pocus" and "Halloweentown," "Casper Meets Wendy" is a classic. It was a treat when this came on TV back in the day, or maybe you were lucky and had it on VHS!
5. You probably knew people who were the Cheetah Girls For Halloween.
"Amigas! Cheetahs! Friends For Life!" The Cheetah Girls were all the rage then, chances are you knew or were part of a group of people who got those faux velvet sweatsuits and matching cheetah print headbands and marched around as the Cheetah Girls for Halloween.
5. Gummy Burgers
Nowadays they are called Gummy Crabby Patties, but back then they were just Gummy Burgers. We may not prefer these as our first choice of candy, but then we ALL wanted to find these in our Halloween Candy. It kind of makes you wonder how many types of chemicals make these that color.
6. "Twitches"
Just like all of our other favorite Halloween Movies, "Twitches" is one of best Halloween movies of those awesome pre-Netflix days. We loved Tia and Tamara on "Sister, Sister," but "Twitches" took the cake.
7. "The Little Vampire"
I don't think we even knew what the kid's name was when the movie was on, we probably just knew him as the kid from " Stuart Little," but this movie was a hit and ran during around the same time as "Halloweentown" on Disney Channel. Now the kid on that movie, Jonathan Lipnicki is 25! Let that sink in.
8. Someone you knew dressed as Napoleon Dynamite.
Like the Cheetah Girls, you probably knew someone who dressed like Napoleon Dynamite for Halloween. In 2004, I don't think stores could keep enough red wigs and vote for Pedro shirts in stock!
9. That random strawberry candy.
You always seemed to end up with loads of it in your candy bag and never knew where it came from. It didn't even really taste that good either, it just kind of appeared. Hmmm, wonder if it was just a thing then or it's still a thing now?
10. "Scream"
Maybe it was just me, but I always wondered if all of the people who dressed up as Scream had actually ever seen the movie. I personally had never seen any of the Scary Movie films at this point, but apparently, it didn't stop every single boy from dressing up as a scream with a mask that bled for Halloween!
11. Hi-C Blast
You probably drank loads of this stuff at Halloween Parties. Sadly it's not something you can buy anymore. Nothing like the taste of red dye number four and a sugar rush!
12. Child's Play Candy
This was the candy that always ended up by the boatload in nearly everyone's candy bag. They still make this today, but our grown-up taste buds probably pass it up, since it only has a few things, for the most part. Mostly Tootsie Rolls and Dots. Maybe it was just me, but Dots were only good for a little while, until I ended up with half a candy bag full of them.
