12 Things That Make Your Day In College

In a big thing like college, it's the little things that matter.

1. When class gets cancelled

This is the number one day-maker for a reason. Free time is often scarce in college, so getting that email that you don't have to go to a class and get an extra free hour or two to do literally anything is probably the best thing to happen in college life.

2. When they have the food you like in the cafeteria

If I roll up to the cafeteria and they have biscuits and gravy, I know it's going to be a good day. I've also been known to get a little over excited about the warm, freshly baked cookies they serve at lunch, but I will not apologize for pursuing happiness.

3. When all of the washers and dryers are open when you need them

You have to strategically plan when you do laundry when you have to share all of the machines with 100+ other people. Even if the washers are open, the dryers will still be full when it's finished washing. But when the stars align and everything is free when you need it to be, it makes life a little bit better.

4. When there's a booth open at the library

Booths fill up fast. Either you're one of the lucky ones that gets the lovely cushiony seats and the extra privacy, or you're stuck at a boring ole table. Whether or not you get a booth really makes or breaks your study session.

5. When you unexpectedly pass your friends

You typically know your friends' schedules pretty well, so you know when you'll get to see them throughout the day. However, sometimes the timing's right and you pass each other unexpectedly, resulting in both of you excitedly waving and being happy to see each other.

6. When you unexpectedly pass your crush

Unless they're in all of your classes and you get to see them all the time, seeing your crush around campus is both happy and scary. You're super excited to see them, but then you're not sure if you should wave or try to talk to them or just hurry along without creating any awkwardness. Regardless, it's nice to have a little extra crush time in your day.

7. When there's free stuff

I mean come on - it's FREE STUFF. And sometimes it's food! Who in their right mind wouldn't be excited about that?

8. When your favorite professor uses your example in class

Professors love to use examples, so it's not necessarily uncommon for your example to get used in class. However, when your favorite prof picks you out of everyone else, it just gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

9. When there's an event you can ACTUALLY go to

There's always something going on on-campus, but sometimes it seems like all the cool stuff happens when you have work or class. It gets exciting when there's something going on during your free time and you can go experience the fun.

10. When the "good" shower is open in the bathroom

Everyone has their favorite shower in the communal bathrooms: maybe one has better water pressure, one has more room, or maybe there's only one with a detachable showerhead. When you walk in to get a shower and the one you love is open, it makes it a little less awful that you have to use communal showers.

11. When you have spending money

Maybe you had a little extra on your check or maybe someone sent you some dough from home. No matter how it happens, it could mean you can get Taco Bell instead of having ramen for the third day in a row, so everyone gets excited about money in college. It helps us forget about our crippling debt for a little while.

12. When a class makes you fall even more in love with your major

Sometimes you worry that you're not doing what you're really meant to be doing, and then you have that moment in class when you know you're where you're meant to be. That's the greatest part of college.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
