12 Things I Texted My Friends During the Debate

These debates are unlike anything we've ever seen.

The Clinton-Trump debate

The Clinton-Trump debates have finally come to a close and for most of us, we are relieved. These debates have been unlike anything we've ever seen and honestly, created a lot more confusion regarding the 2016 Presidential Election. While watching the debate, a lot of controversial topics arose and of course we had to text our friends about them. Here is a list of 12 things I texted my friends during the debate.

1. Wait, what was the question?

During these debates, we often found ourselves stumped because we couldn't remember what the candidates were being asked because they were too concerned with bringing the other candidate down.

2. How did Trump make it this far?

With absolutely no political experience whatsoever, how does one make it into the final two candidates of a presidential election?!

3. Okay, Clinton seriously needs to reevaluate the pantsuit selection.

I mean pantsuits are never really cute, but there has to be something better than that..

4. Does Donald Trump realize the answer to a question about sexual assault is not "ISIS"?

Every time Trump was faced with a question about sexual assault, his answer was always somewhere along the lines of "Look at ISIS!" Sorry sir, that was not the question we were asking.

5. Wait. Did he just threaten to jail his opponent? Yes, yes he did.

6. How many times are we going to talk about the emails?!

Pretty sure we've brought the emails up like 100,000 times, so let's just stop beating a dead horse.

7. I just want to see Hillary do her debate shimmy.

8. We can't get through one question without someone interrupting the other.

Come on guys, let's just be respectful here.

9. Yeah, I don't think I respect Donald Trump.

I hate what he says about women and how he views them. He seems to think that women should just be trophy wives and sit at home and I'm just not okay with that.

10. But I actually really don't like Hillary either.

Hillary is far from an angel. She is the epitome of a politician and I can't stand that.

11. This election is giving me anxiety.

Are these seriously the best candidates we could find?

12. Oh my gosh, the election is literally less than a month away.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
