The struggle is real.

12 Things A Teenage Workaholic Can Relate To

I feel like we've all been here at this point in our lives. We're trying to pay for college, pay for our car, pay for food, pay for stuff we don't need, pay for stuff we do need...ready to pull your hair out yet? The stress of financials is just starting to hit us as we enter the adult world and suddenly we realize that everything costs money. What happened to our childhood days when we really didn't have to pay for anything? Somewhere between high school and college we got our first job, our first paycheck, and new responsibilities. Some of us fell into the workaholic category without even realizing it. Not sure if you're heading that way? If you find these next 12 things relatable, you might already be there.

1. You're totally aware of your social life. Or lack thereof.

You're so busy with work that you forget that it's been months since you've had lunch with a friend, seen a movie, been to the beach, or even had a date. In fact the only places you've seen recently have been your place of work, your school, and your room.

2. You're so exhausted ALL THE TIME.

You can't remember a day where you didn't completely collapse on your bed the second you got home from a 12 hour busy day. Oh wait, that's every day. Coffee, anyone?

3. Coffee becomes your new BFF.

You went from trying to drink any caffeinated beverage sparingly to somehow needing it every morning to get through the day. The french vanilla swirl iced coffee from Dunkin has become my life saver.

4. That morning burst of productivity!

Usually after your morning dose of coffee, you realize how many important things you're going to accomplish and you can't wait for the day to start. Work is fun, people!

5. You suddenly want to take on 10 million things at once.

You take on three jobs, extra classes at college, you sign up for the dance team, student government and the prom committee. Oops, there goes my free time!

6. Then you become overwhelmed at everything you have going on.

A mental breakdown is expected at least twice a week with every workaholic. Maybe more.

7. Everyone judges your workaholic-ism and tells you to take a break.

"Don't tell me how much work I can or cannot handle!"- A common workaholic's response to this sort of intervention.

8. When you finally give in and take a break, you're so bored.

How do you people just sit around and do nothing all day??

9. Reveling in all the money you're making at your three jobs.

The $$$ is real. Time to go shopping!

10. Then you realize you have no time to spend your money.

Or time to do anything really.

11. Feeling like you need a life.

It's time to stop working and start having fun. I MISS FUN!

12. Realizing that all this pain will be worth it.

Eventually we're going to accomplish what we've been trying to accomplish and we won't have to live such a busy life! Unless of course we want to, and most workaholics want to.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
