Kensington, MD. A small town between Washington, DC and Baltimore Md. Comprised of vineyard vines, tan lines, and everything you need in your life. Growing up here there is never a dull moment, and always something fun to do. Whether it is hanging out by Chipotle and 7-11, chilling at the pool or heading out with friends for the night you find a way to see everyone you have ever known in your entire life (including your parents). You know the hot spots to hang out and the back roads to get away. You also know that when you come home from college, everyone you grew up with will be right there with you and nothing is going to change. Here are 12 things people from Kensington can relate to.

1. Growing up in Kensington you knew everyone.

"Hey its the 3rd time I have seen you and its only Wednesday!" Never gets old?

2. Continental Pizza.

You walk in and they know your order because you are there all the time and Friday's during Lent? Forget it the line is out the door.

3. Chipotle and Five Guys were a big deal.

The biggest things to ever come to Kensington were the addition of Chipotle and Five Guys and it is the best thing that ever happened.

4. Majority of your friends lived down the street from you or the next street over.

"Hey want to come over? Yeah I'll be there in 30 seconds" is said on a regular basis.

5. Sports are a big deal and without them you are somewhat of an outcast.

If "What lacrosse tournament are you going to this weekend?" and "Perfect I'll see you there!" doesn't happen there is a problem.

6. You go on vacation to be with your family and instead hang out with everyone from Kensington

Bethany Beach in the summer is like K-town with sand and the ocean.

7. Halloween is a BIG deal.

You know all the best houses and who gives out the biggest candy bars. (Shout out to PW for the ribs because candy is overrated!)

8. Christmas is an even bigger deal.

Everyone brings out the big guns year after year because if you don't win the candy canes for the front of your house is Santa really coming?

9. There are 3 go to pools.

If you don't go to Columbia, Connecticut Belair, or Cedarbrook do you even live in Kensington?

10. High School isn't much different than Middle School.

Aside from the workload getting bigger, the sports getting harder, and the schools being different, most people continued on to high school with their middle school best friends.

11. Everyone knows everything.

Word travels fast and you can't decide if it is a good thing or a bad thing.

12. It is home.

You know you wouldn't feel home anywhere else because is everyone is so close. Coming home from college is the best because you catch up with old friends and nothing has changed.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
