12 Things People From Atlanta Understand
  1. ITP versus OTP. I'm from Atlanta, DeKalb County born and raised. Inside I-285. You are not from Atlanta if you live in the suburbs of Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Marietta, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Suwanee, Duluth, Roswell... The list goes on but hopefully you get my point.
  2. If you're ITP you spent every field trip at Fernbank. Oh, Fernbank Science Center. Thanks for being the place we went to if we were learning about dinosaurs, constellations, or the birds and the bees.
  3. ...and on those field trips you had Chick-fil-A. I can't eat Chick-fil-A chicken sandwiches anymore because of how many I had during my time at school in Atlanta. Every field trip ended with us sitting on the ground eating room temperature chicken sandwiches, a bag of regular lays potato chips and a brownie with nuts on top.
  4. What'llyahave what'llyahave what'llyahave? Two naked dogs, rings, and an F.O. Please. Chances are, if you go to a college that isn't in Georgia people will have no idea what you're talking about when you say that in reference to one of the best fast food restaurants of all time: The Varsity.
  5. The Braves and Falcons break your heart every year. "This is our year." -Every Atlanta sports fan at the beginning of the season. "Well maybe next year." -Every Atlanta sports fan at the end of the season.
  6. A part of your soul died when the Braves announced their plans for a new stadium. I cried in the line of Chick-Fil-A. (Is there anything more Atlantan than that?) You can't move the Atlanta Braves out of Atlanta. You just can't.
  7. But the new Falcon's stadium... That is going to be incredible.
  8. You laugh when people tell you how bad pollen is wherever they're from. HA. Nice one. Try again next year!
  9. You cringe when drinking Pepsi. Maybe it's how you were raised, or maybe it's just simply right. Coke is always the better choice.
  10. And yes, it's "Coke." Not soda, not pop, and definitely not "soda pop." *shudders.*
  11. There are like 100 different streets all called "Peachtree." I definitely can't tell you which one is which, but I can can tell you that each one will lead to somewhere awesome and exciting.
  12. Atlanta is actually the best city ever. There's something for everyone, and always something going on. Shopping, music, food, city life... You're never bored in Atlanta.

PEACE UP, A-TOWN DOWN. Usher out.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
