12 Things Only Someone From Oregon Will Understand

I promise we're not all coffee- obsessed hipsters, well most of us...

Being from Oregon, and having been to multiple different states, I always come home and know that Oregon is the most beautiful state ever. Even though it rains about 475 out of the 365 days of the year, it is something truly astounding and there is no other state that can compare. And yes, most people from Oregon are hipsters and possibly a little weird... I mean we have a motto and it is, "Keep Portland Weird".

1. If you see someone carrying an umbrella, they aren't from around here.

Oregonians tend to just pull the hoods of their North Face jackets over their heads and keep moving. The rain does not phase us, we will go to the beach in bathing suits when the temperature hits 65 degrees.

2. We have the BEST water.

Your argument is invalid. Oregon water is the best and it always will be.

3. The PDX Carpet

Yes, we are obsessed with a carpet in our airport. In fact, when we all found out it was going to be torn up and replaced, we made socks, lanyards, mouse pads, hats, shirts, water bottles, and even underwear in its memory. ~ we are too obsessed ~

4. We have the best coffee.

Your argument is also invalid for this one and 5 & 6. There is about one coffee shop on every corner of Portland, and no they are not all just Starbucks.

5. Oh, and donuts!

Voodoo is open 24/7 and any time is a good time to go, but sometimes the line is an hour long...

6. And ice cream

Okay so, Salt & Straw might have one more location in LA, BUT it is still the best ice cream ever to ever exist. You are either wrong or a liar if you say that their lavender and honey ice cream isn't the best.

7. We are lucky if there is actually a concert in Portland.

No singers or rappers or artists feel the need to visit Oregon on their tours and it honestly breaks all of our tiny fragile hearts.

8. If you live in the valley everything is about an hour away.

The beach, snow, the city, great hiking, and even desert areas are all just about an hour drive away.

9. Ducks vs. Beavers

Need I say more?

10. Seattle is basically a second home next to P-town.

It is the biggest city near us and we take advantage of that. If we get tired of all the coffee places in Portland, we just go to Seattle for even more.

11. If you live in the North, In-N-Out is about 5 hours away.

It is honestly such a tragedy.

12. Hiking has never been more beautiful

I may be slightly biased, but there are no better places to hike than Oregon. You could hike on a different trail every day for about a whole year and never grow tired of seeing lakes, waterfalls, and so many beautiful things.

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

CSU

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
